I don't know if I want him starting on the OL, but I have full faith in Josh Luggs when it comes to cooking burgers. When describing what he was going to do, it sound great, it looked great, and I like a burger just a notch below medium.

I'm going to puke if we lose to McNagy. The thought of that arrogant ass smugly smiling to himself the following Monday when he's flipping burgers and cleaning the fryer is just awful.

The cigarette has been passed from Jay Cutler to Justin Fields.

C'mon. That is still an Andy Reid offense and most likely he will be calling plays in McNagy's first year as OC in KC. They still have Mahomes, and Kelce. The Marshall Plan wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 3:26 am I'm going to puke if we lose to McNagy. I have the Bears coming into KC as pretty big dogs, even after having started 2-0. Then I have them leaving KC 3-0 and the league being served notice.

My disgust comes from McNagy getting the satisfaction.

Bears Goggles On is writing up the top players in Bears history at each number, counting backwards from 99 till the season starts. They just did #81, Doug Atkins, at truly great talent at DE:

In keeping with the countdown to the start of the season, here are 2 more famous numbers in Bears' history:

Day 76, only one real choice - Steve McMichael.
Another one of my all time favorite players.
I tried finding it online, but I didn't find anything about this - didn't he handle kicks in a game that Butler was hurt?
All I could find was this - https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct- ... story.html and it's behind a pay wall. The title and little blurb on the google search page make it seem as it he would do it if needed (so the piece came out before the game I think), but I can't find anything that says he kicked. It could be I just remember there was talk about he might do it if needed, but was never called upon.
Anyone else remember anything about this?

I'd like to see the Bears retire his number. Yes, I know they've retire a ton and really are against doing it any more but he played his rear-end off for 12 years and was a force.Arkansasbear wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 3:34 pm https://beargoggleson.com/posts/chicago ... hael-mongo

I think it's getting hard to retire number now given our history. I'd like us to some sort of ring of honor. Once you get in the group, your number can't be wore for 10-15 years or something, maybe less I don't know.Grizzled wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 3:50 pmI'd like to see the Bears retire his number. Cutler was quiet off the field. He was just an asshole both on it and off of it. If you want to talk leadership, then yes, JF1 is the anti-Cutler.

Maybe it's selective memory, but I can't recall Cutler ever being deemed an asshole on or off the field. Aloof, nonchalant, reserved, uninterested...all terms I've heard used to describe him, but never asshole.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 8:50 amCutler was quiet off the field. Seems like when he was yelling at Leno (??) for missing blocks, he was deemed not a leader. When Brady did it to one of his OL, they talked about his great leadership skills.wab wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 10:52 amMaybe it's selective memory, but I can't recall Cutler ever being deemed an asshole on or off the field. The Bears have 14 retired numbers, tied with the Giants for most. 50 and 54 were worn by HOFers but haven't been assigned since although they remain available. The Ring of Honor idea is a nice compromise.Arkansasbear wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 4:00 pmI think it's getting hard to retire number now given our history. I'd like us to some sort of ring of honor. JMO but I'd do away with the retired numbers all together. Ring of Honor is a great way to honor your past greats, so I'd do that and just rip the bandaid off and "unretire" all of the numbers at once. Even 34. IMO it's an homage to the greats to wear their number, it's not disrespectful at all. It's gotten to the point where so many numbers are retired by guys I never saw play and it's just lost it's relevance, and it's also unfair to the new starts like Samurai and Urlacher because we've already retired so many that their numbers become increasingly hard to retire as the years go on.

My feelings exactly. Never been a fan of retiring #s, where does it stop? Love the ring of honor, The players still get their due and other players can feel special by wearing the # of a great (Sayers, Butkus, Walter, to name a few). You can place the jersey # by the name.dplank wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 12:56 pm JMO but I'd do away with the retired numbers all together. I'm kind of torn on this issue. I simply can't think of anyone else wearing 34.dplank wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 12:56 pm JMO but I'd do away with the retired numbers all together. If we bring back numbers, I think you bring them back 3-5 at a time, longest retired to least retired. Each year the numbers that are brought back have a game they then get inducted into the ring of honor maybe. Maybe not as I think about it.
Would still like to see the team be very active in policing who gets to wear the numbers that have been retired or make it into the ring of honor.
I don't really want to see anyone in 34 as I said, and I hate the idea of a 7th round pick being assigned #50. I'd almost prefer a guy had to be with the team a few year before he could get any of these numbers, but that's not going to happen.
I may take this number thing a lot more serious than most. But here's why - While I was in law school a guy who was one of my best friends in college and play OT for us died in a car wreck. He was one of the best people I ever knew, he was also a starter for us, but never got any sort of all conference recognition. He simply busted his ass every practice and every game. I got a bunch of former teammates and current players to meet with the coaches and and admin and wanted to do something to remember him. Central Arkansas are the Bears, so we got permission to paint 4 foot X 2 foot bear paws going into the stadium with his number on them. We also got the coaches to agree that his number wouldn't be given to any freshman until after several practices and they showed the same grit Roy had. Once the coaches felt the guy showed "he had what Roy had" they'd swap numbers. The OL coach passed on handing out his number for a few years and then agreed to give it to some kid. I think they kept up this practice for about 10 years, but when a coach came in that hadn't been there when he played, they decided not to it. Upset a bunch of us, but he said he didn't know him and didn't think it was fair for him to make that call. I know it shouldn't but still bothers me a bit. So I do wonder about the players or their families who then seen someone else wearing "their number" who hasn't yet contributed to the team.
So I think the 15 year "retirement" is good, especially since now they will all know it's going back into circulation at some point.

50 for the Bears? That's been worn by a few players since Singletary including Shea McClellin who, if I recall correctly, began his career wearing Dan Hampton's old 99 jersey. Sterling Weatherford's currently assigned 50.
When the Bears retired Ditka's #89 they stated his would be the last. I'm of the opinion that numbers should only be retired for a limited time, perhaps the number of years a player was with the team.

I just can't say I would want to see anyone else wearing #34 or #51. But it's difficult to say someone else is HOF worthy but their number can be reused. So, if the Bears ditched all retired numbers and went to Ring of Honor system, I could see that.
