I'm sure it's PTSD, but someone tell me why I'm terrified Jordan Love is going to light us up and Justin Fields is going to flop week 1
Right there with you. No bigger game 1 than when you play GB. A loss would be crushing. A victory would be nice.
I expect that even if Getsy has a ton of confidence and faith in JF1, he's not going to come out of the gate slinging it against Green Bay. He won't let JF1 flop. I think Getsy will trot out the '22 rushing attack - and then some. I think they'll try to establish dominance over Green Bay with the new Oline, and make JF1 as comfortable as possible. My guess is well under 20 attempts but a really big game for the Bear offense including a big debut for DJ Moore where he scores his first of many TDs against the Packers.

DJ Moore vs Green Bay: https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/d.j.-m ... -green-bay

On D I expect us to be squinting and rubbing our eyes in a little disbelief as the '23 Bear D out of the gate looks a lot like the 2005 Lovie D - and they pretty much bend all day long but get 3 takeaways and limit Love to maybe a TD or two but other than that maybe 1-2 FGs.

From a purely selfish perspective, if the Bears are going to be playing on a Thursday I'm glad it's Week 5.

Despite SNF, MNF, TNF, a bye week and evening kick offs somehow the Bears always seem to end up playing Sunday afternoons whenever there's a London game and I miss the fun of seeing them live with the guys in the Discord chat.

Now if the NFL can just do me a solid in Weeks 4 and 6 too...

They don't like to keep things simple do they?
The league will decide two Saturday games and one Sunday Night Football game for Week 18 on six days’ notice, as they typically have playoff implications.

For the first time, the NFL can flex Monday Night Football games in 2023. MNF games can be changed from Week 13-17. Sunday Night Football games can be changed twice from Week 5-10 and anytime between Weeks 11-17. In all cases, the league must make the change on 12 days’ notice.

Only Sunday games — not Thursday games or the league’s new Black Friday game — can be flexed into SNF or MNF timeslots. The game moved out of the nighttime spot will be slotted into Sunday afternoon.

Week 4 and Week 6 games at noon. Typical. I said the Bears always play afternoon games on the days there are London games. The Broncos one is particularly annoying because a friend of mine supports them. I was looking forward to a bit of banter during that game, but now I won't want to know the score until I get home and watch a recording of the game.

For what it's worth Cynthia Frelund, NFL Network Analytics Expert, has this preliminary projection for the Bears "based on projected 53-man rosters to simulate all 272 regular-season games 100,000 times, yielding the projected win totals for every team in the NFC":

Wins 8.2
  • Win Total: over 7.5 (-120)
  • Make Playoffs: +175
  • Win Division: +350
  • Win Conference: +2200
  • Win Super Bowl: +5000
Her division winners are:
  • NFC East: Philadelphia Eagles (11.1 wins)
  • NFC West: San Francisco 49ers (10.9 wins)
  • NFC North: Detroit Lions (9.6 wins)
  • NFC South: New Orleans Saints (8.9 wins)
And her wild cards are:
  • Dallas Cowboys (9.6 wins)
  • Seattle Seahawks (8.9 wins)
  • Atlanta Falcons (8.7 wins)
Her next two teams in terms of win projections are the Vikings and the Bears with 8.2, so according to her fancy metrics the Bears should be in the hunt for a wildcard.

The bad news is she has the Panthers at 7.9 wins, which wouldn't be good for the Bears extra first round pick next year.

It sux sux sux that the Bears are on a short week (3 days off) before playing the Panthers. All of the yakking heads will be focused on pretty boy Bryce - it'll be what it used to be for a Pukers game where they slobber over Erin.

Dear Santa, my Christmas wishlist:
1. After the bye the Bears win a squeaker against the Lions.
2. Heading into Cleveland, Justin Fields exacts his revenge over the em-Bear-assment from his first season against the Brownies.
3. And then, then on Christmas Eve, it's the Bears D that struggles against the Cards while JF1 has a mediocre half. They start to build momentum in the second half, and Fields connects on a long pass to VJJ to win by 2. The Cards use an AI-generated image of Dennis Green (RIP) for the post game presser and the "Let 'em off the hook" reverberates.

San Francisco has always been my favorite booing city. I don't mean the people boo louder or longer, but there is a very special intimacy. Music, that's what it is to me. One time in Kezar Stadium they gave me a standing boo.

If we go 3-3 in the division I see us at 11 wins (3 division losses, Chiefs, Chargers, and 1 more somewhere). I predicted 5 wins last year so I am a littlemore bullish this year!

I don't know if you all watched most of the release show like I did. I hope the Bear players were all glued to the TV to watch it. Because if they were, I'm guessing they feel pretty disrespected about now. I dont' think they even discussed the Bear schedule at all, on a 3 hour show. They had to mention the Bears when they talked about the Thursday night games and a couple of other scheduling notes, and mentioned Fields' name once.

I thought they were going to run through each team's schedule and at least do a little bit - but instead it was all about the presumed division leaders and anticipatory excitement about new players. LOL - as if Bijon is going to lead Atlanta to the playoffs. I can't WAIT to play them.

I missed a couple of minutes here and there but not enough to have missed any substantitve discussion of the Bears - if they spent even a minute on the Bears' schedule I missed it. SO much love for the Lions, and the Jordan Love Pack (WTF). MJD and that illiterate idiot Emmanuel Sanders spending the entire show talking about who they personally like. I was just getting angrier and angrier as the night went on - and hope the players were too.

The Chargers PR team knows how to do a schedule release. They crush the Lions, Vikings, Cowboys, and Jets in this. You need to pause each one to catch all the easter eggs they put in. Build a Bear with all our "great" QBs is pretty funny too.

Somebody will bust out a poll pretty soon for us all to predict the record. I HOPE when that happens there will be two of them - one WITH JF1 making a substantial step forward, ala Hurts (and people could speculate about what that would look like). And then one where JF1 does NOT substantially improve - and is basically the same guy as last year. Even then many might argue the team overall would be much better.

I think it would be interesting, and a better picture of what people are thinking than one poll that would be a hodgepodge of improve/not improve perspectives.

Swamped at work and can't right now. Maybe over the weekend. But IDC if someone else takes the idea I just think it would be a good way to approach it.

He is a wrestler. He trained in Chicago.

The only reason I know this is he is from a stinky little town, Buffalo, IA, that is about 45 minutes from where I live. Just outside of Davenport.

So a B List Celebrity, got it.

Overall, I would say the schedule breaks well for the Beloved. I'm surprised we got as many prime time games as we did (4), considering our record. But the Bears are a national draw team and I think there is a feeling that they will be more competitive this year (from their lips to God's ear!)

this definitely challenges the notion that the world revolves around football. i'm floored.

I personally could maybe name 5 NHL teams, gun to my head.

That rest/miles travelled stuff has been a strong predictor of games where roster talent is similar.

I wonder if any of our opponents in those last four games will have quit/trying to tank?

FYI for all ... in Getsy's pressers he refers to Tonyan as "Bobby". It's Bobby Tonyan - which I did not know.
