Payton obviously has a lot of experience with a sub 6' QB, which honestly has to be attractive to the cards.

If the Cards are crazy enough to give up the 3rd pick in the draft for Payton, that's actually an amazing scenario for the Bears. Because the Saints will very obviously be looking for a QB and teams like the Colts/Panthers/Raiders will almost be forced to call the Bears.

They can't be crazy enough to give up the third pick though... right?

Does it have to be that pick? Can’t they agree to something less?

I'm sure it could be, but the Saints have been pretty clear that they want a first round pick for Payton. The 3rd pick though is bananas.

Man, the fact that Irsay wants Saturday and isnt even sitting in on other interviews is fucking hilarious. Irsay's just gonna casually get his name added to Brian Flores' lawsuit.

What, Wentz is going to Canada to play? I'd hope Reich, after being burned twice by Wentz, would take a hard pass on him for Carolina save and excepting he's offered a "prove it" contract and Carolina still drafts a QB.

The Saints can ask for whatever compensation they want, it's not carved into stone.

I mean, the Saints control the whole thing... so they can ask whatever they want and if they don't get it, the Cards can't hire Payton.

Someone on here said they read that Payton is leaning towards a job out west, because of where his family are located.

He wanted one of the LA teams but the Chargers didn't boot their coach after the playoff debacle. Any word if he's still interested in Denver? Demarco Ryan appears headed to the Texans. Flores may be going to the Cards.

Harbaugh had a second interview even though he had recommitted to Michigan. Never say never with these guys. (Still no deal though after that interview)
A new Era begins in the NFC North!

Sadly, it does not involve the Bears.... :frustrated:

Yep, after all his arrogance and hubris, I wouldn't mind seeing him come back to the NFL and do a classic face plant.

Dolphins hiring ex-Broncos coach Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator

The Miami Dolphins snagged the most sought-after defensive coordinator candidate, Vic Fangio.

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Sunday the Dolphins agreed to terms with Fangio on a three-year contract that makes him the highest-paid coordinator in the NFL, per sources. Pelissero adds that the pact includes a fourth-year team option.

Interesting. Vic was linked to Sean Payton. Wonder if this means Payton's going back to the broadcast booth for at least another year. Now Miami's going to have top notch offensive and defensive minds. Doesn't always translate to success but certainly increases the chances.

Denver - Their search is officially in shambles. Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon is looking like to top choice.
Arizona - Payton still in play, but they are also looking at Bill Callahan, Lorenzo Alexander, and Lou Anarumo
Carolina - Reich is the guy
Houston - Demeco Ryans is expected to take the job
Indy - It's going to be Jeff Saturday isn't it.

Ryans to Houston

Payton to Denver
(some incomplete reporting on terms but seems to be a 2023 first (via SF via Miami, Chubb trade), a 2024 2nd, and NO is sending back a pick as well.

NO sending back a R3 pick.

Good deal for Denver really. Though Payton could prove to be a “one team wonder”.

Denver is sending a 1st this year and a 2nd next year and getting a 3rd back in '24. Vic to the Dolphins may be premature. Shanahan, knowing he was going to lose his DC, reached out to him. They have a strong relationship.

Vic is basically getting to choose between the golf scene in Florida vs California. Florida has no income tax and is a natural retirement destination. I would bet on Florida, but he could afford either.

California won't have water for their fairways, so no bet.

My nephew out in Denver is NOT a happy camper about this move. I talked with another Bronc fan and they are not happy either. No real draft capitol, an aging, declining Russ and a coach they feel is overrated.

Payton might give them a little boost because he will be able to design an offense around Russ, but I don't think it's sustainable.

Payton is a great coach IMO. I don’t like the match with Russ but do think long term he will greatly improve that franchise.

If anyone can though, it's probably Payton? 2017-2020 heat maps for Drew Brees and Russ, both short guys who dont like throwing to the middle of the field:

I still would have rather seen him take a stab at Kyler, since he's not getting that running ability with Russ that Payton's been craving all his life.
