Aaron Rodgers, Jets agree to new two-year, $75M guaranteed contract

Another box has been checked in the burgeoning Aaron Rodgers era in Gotham.

Rodgers has agreed to a new two-year, $75 million guaranteed contract through the 2024 season with the New York Jets, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported, per NFL salary data, Wednesday afternoon.

Rodgers is taking a pay cut of roughly $35 million as his previous deal had nearly $110 million guaranteed remaining, per Pelissero. Pelissero added that the four-time Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player's new contract is technically a five-year deal with two option years to spread out bonus proration. The pact also creates a 2023 cap number of just less than $9 million.

Rodgers confirmed a reworked deal on Wednesday, though he was relatively mum on the details other than seeming to hint it meant he does not intend to just play one season with the Jets.

While NFL QBs are signing new record breaking deals with each new contract, Erin takes a pay cut. He must have really wanted out of Green Bay.

Maybe he's finally more interested in getting a second ring than money to cement his legacy.

If the knucklehead can get a second ring in NY I feel like that 100% changes the narrative on his entire career.

I would not be surprised if his primary motivating factor now is more about sticking it to the Packers (particularly, Gutekunst) than anything else. I think a dream scenario for Rodgers is that he wins the SB, the Packers go 5-12 the next couple of years and Gutekunst gets the axe.

Edit: typo.

Completely off-topic (and why not, when it's an Aaron Rodgers thread?), but my older son is about to hit sixth grade. You just reminded me that I've got to find exactly the right time to have the Don't stick your ____ in _____ talk.

We're already at the "Heh-heh, fill in the blanks, heh, heh" stage.

I'd just love to watch Rodgers lose the Super Bowl with Bear tracks all over his cheesy ass. That's my preferred universe right there.
No matter how you try to box him in, whatever realistic scenario you propose to build around him is going to include the fashion aspect(s) of Caleb's dramatic personality.

You know, I never was a big Leonard Floyd guy, but like Greg Olsen, he always seemed to be at his best against the Packers. I think we should keep guys like that sometimes if for no other reason.

An average of 80 babies are born each day in Cook County. Call it 39 male babies.

Which means that in the next 20 hours, 38 babies will be named Leonard Wootton (south of the Loop) or Wootton Leonard (north of the Loop). One baby in, I dunno, Park Forest will be named Woonard.

EDIT: Dangit, I forgot how to spell Corey Wootton's name.

Now that Rodgers isn't our problem anymore I kinda hoped he'd introduce a new layer to the AFC and mix it up between the Chiefs, Bengals, and Bills.

Probably not going to happen now.

Oh well. If he never was a Packer I would've liked him. I enjoyed his Joe Rogan Experience interview immensely. Interesting choice in women too.

As I posted in the the game thread, I had hoped the Bears would end Rodgers' career like they did Favre's.

A former Bear doing it is the next best thing, because fuck that guy.

I hear he was treated with ivermectin and bleach last night, and he's doing his own research on Achilles injuries. So, he may be back next week.

Thinking about this from a divisional perspective, now all we need is for Love to show he's actually pretty average (or worse). No extra 1st round pick for the Packers and a mediocre QB to keep them from drafting one highly is just what the doctor ordered.

If Rich gives you shit, I don't want to hear about how he's instigating.

ANYWAY, funniest possible outcome for this season now is that the jets win the superbowl with zach wilson.

Thought I read Leonard Floyd put the hit on him. Too bad Floyd didn't hit him more often when Rodgers was a Packer.

Pack doesn't get a first round pick now, so that's an extra bonus.

I do enjoy that part in particular. Rodgers getting hurt brings me no joy.

I can't root for any player to get hurt. Not even Aaron Rodgers.

Feel bad for Rodgers but the good news for us is Green Bay DOES NOT get a 1st round pick as compensation.
