All it takes is for one GM to think he found the diamond in the rough. Mauch has talked about as a mid day 2 pick in what I have seen over time. I think he can be damn good.

Eh, Cole Strange went in the first last year. Mauch is a better prospect than him. Probably a better prospect than Zion Johnson too.
And I'd argue that Dewand is as good of a prospect as Trevor Penning.
I'm not saying they are going top 12. But early in the 20's...quite possible.

Especially when one considers the alternatives. Athleticism in oversized bodies sells in the NFL draft.wab wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 3:49 pmEh, Cole Strange went in the first last year. Mauch is a better prospect than him. Probably a better prospect than Zion Johnson too.

Lost a bet that the Bears wouldn't trade #1 overall, so I "pony"'d up. Never been so happy to be so wrong.

Mauch I like, somewhere in Day 2
Dawand? Somewhere around 100-150 for me.
If anyone wants to spend a higher pick, you go right ahead.

Jets and Bills have more than 1 FA at RT and G. Several other teams have needs also. The opportunity is there if the kids prove themselves this week and on into the Combine.
I'm way behind doing salary cap analysis and working through draft profiles for the top 30.
Doubt I'm gonna come in 2nd for a 3rd time in a row for our draft contest if UOK has it this year.

I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

Happy to see reports that Evan Hull has shown well, for at least one day. Assuming the Bears don't resign David Montgomery, I'd be pleased with landing Hull.

Was that Byron Young or McDonald who kept whipping every RT the American team threw out in 11 on 11s? Had a hard time finishing, but then again he's not supposed to....

Some LB prospects have really stepped up. Daiyan Henley is probably a third-rounder at worst and has been terrific in coverage, but the guy I'm really intrigued with is Marte Mapu. Excellent coverage and plays like a shotgun blast heading downhill, even though he's only 220 or so.

I'm not sure I'm up for investing a Day 2 pick on a LB this year (well, not without an extra one, maybe), though with Henley turning 24 in November, maybe he slides to Day 3. Mapu didn't dominate his FCS competition the way you'd like him to have, so I'm not particularly sold personally.
I am pretty high on Tulane LB Dorian Williams, tho, who I think is a promising guy to consider on Day 3.

Oh, 24 isn't what it used to be. It can't be. Because that would make me 30 years or so past old.thunderspirit wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 12:42 am I'm not sure I'm up for investing a Day 2 pick on a LB this year (well, not without an extra one, maybe), though with Henley turning 24 in November, maybe he slides to Day 3.
Ahem. I'm only really thinking about where guys would make sense for the Bears. I've got Henley above O'Cyrus Torrence, for instance, since Torrence seems useful only in a power scheme where he can stay in a phone box.
AP All-American and conference defensive MVP; that's pretty good from where I'm sitting.Mapu didn't dominate his FCS competition the way you'd like him to have, so I'm not particularly sold personally.
And he did it as...a nickelback. At least that's how he's listed. We've already got a similar conversion project in Sterling Weatherford, but Mapu plays like a pair of brass knuckles. I keep coming back to my mistrust of the coaching staff to take advantage of a guy like that while covering his weak points, but he's done some neat stuff in Mobile. Buddy Ryan would've found a place for him.
Good call.I am pretty high on Tulane LB Dorian Williams, tho, who I think is a promising guy to consider on Day 3.

McDonald… I have to take another look at this guy. He’s being pigeonholed as a situational rusher…He’s looked very good this week

TE isn't all that high on my list, but this might be the year to build the corps. Payne Durham has looked absolutely fantastic today. I seem to remember that he's got a reputation for being a blocker first, which is the way it should be, but his route running and hands have been nails. Like "what the fuck are we supposed to do against that?" good.

It’s not high for me but definitely want to draft someone late with some upside. Even if it’s he’s bigger and a little slow or undersized but is fast. There’s a lot of potential day 3 TE that have something that might be intriguing.karhu wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 2:33 pm TE isn't all that high on my list, but this might be the year to build the corps. Would be great to have a healthy Tevin Jenkins at RG with Dewand Jones at RT...
