Damn I was hoping he’d get a big payday. And I was hoping he wouldn’t go to a rival

Happy we didn't pay that for him and don't really care he's a lion. Montgomery is not a back who puts fear into defenses.

When Montgomery gets his 2-3 yards before being blasted by Ed and Ed your all going to realize how lucky we are to not be paying him 6 million a year.

Monty was a good dude/teammate and an “OK” player. I never saw him as a game breaker and I believe his production is replaceable.

Based on current roster Ed and Ed are gonna be washed out by Lions OL while Montogemery bounces off our mostly replacement level DL.HurricaneBear wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 8:52 pm When Montgomery gets his 2-3 yards before being blasted by Ed and Ed your all going to realize how lucky we are to not be paying him 6 million a year.

That seems like the perfect time for Brisker to streak in for a tackle. The Montgomery special, break more tackles during the run than yards gained. The Cooler King wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 8:54 pmBased on current roster Ed and Ed are gonna be washed out by Lions OL while Montogemery bounces off our mostly replacement level DL.HurricaneBear wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 8:52 pm When Montgomery gets his 2-3 yards before being blasted by Ed and Ed your all going to realize how lucky we are to not be paying him 6 million a year.

Am I crazy/misremembering or was most of this board up in arms about a year ago when Montgomery was called inefficient.
Now most are just like "bye"?
Is it just different people responding (not trying to pull receipts, just expected a little more disappointment here). I always felt like a relative "dogger" on DM, but now feel like I'm high on the pro side lol

I can't speak for others but I was never a Montgomery fan or a hater. When he was a Bear I supported him, he's easy to like because he tries hard so it was fun cheering him for 4 years. And I said when his contract is up I'd be totally fine seeing him go. Because I firmly believe you don't pay running backs, ESPECIALLY ones with his skill set.The Cooler King wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 9:04 pm Am I crazy/misremembering or was most of this board up in arms about a year ago when Montgomery was called inefficient.

I feel the same way about Herbert if it makes you feel better. Love watching him now, won't care once his contract is up because I don't want him to get a second contact with the Bears.
Im happy because I honestly think we dodged a bullet. Don't worry, if they sign a back my happiness will quickly be gone.

Good for Monty. Wish him well 15 games out of the year.

Well, that stinks. But good for him; may the road rise, Monty.
So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.

When there was talk of him getting $10m or more per year I could understand why people were happy to let him walk, but for $6m with an easy out when Herbert's contract is up if you want to just keep one (or move on from both)?
I'll say one thing, if Eberflus gushes about a player and then lets him go for that level of contract then if I was a player coming up for an extension I wouldn't believe a word that came out of his mouth in the run up. I'd be making sure my agent was earning his money in full by feeling out any and all options that I might have elsewhere.

He's from Detroit, right? Michigan, at least. Now that he's a family man, he might have been focusing pretty narrowly on his next destination.

Well, honestly.....this makes me want to puke. I've always like Montgomery and I didn't want to see him in the NFC North

Total bummer. But I get it. You don’t spend $6M a year on a RB like Monty. Send a 3rd to SD for Ekeler??

It takes two to tango. I get the feeling Monty wanted to go somewhere he was going to be the man. With Herbert, fields and this offense he was never going to put up big numbers at all. Plus it was his hometown.
As much as I liked Monty, and I would have been ok at 7 to 8 million a season, running backs are very, very replaceable in today's nfl.
I mean who is the stud RB to really impact his team rushing in the playoffs and superbowl the last 5 to 10 years? Marshawn Lynch or Frank Gore?

Nah. Dude wants a new contract, which is why the Chargers allowed him to seek a trade.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 10:09 pm Total bummer. But I get it. You don’t spend $6M a year on a RB like Monty. Send a 3rd to SD for Ekeler??

A 3rd for Ekeler would be nuts IMO. And he supposedly wants 12M extension.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 10:09 pm Total bummer. But I get it. You don’t spend $6M a year on a RB like Monty. Send a 3rd to SD for Ekeler??
He was supposedly granted ability to look for a trade. I'm guessing Bears vetted that and shot it down. It's looking like the Herbert-Homer show with either Evans as the 3rd or they'll look for a draft pick to add sometime after pick 64 most likely.
