The athletic traits are there, but I see a serious lack of instincts when I watch the tape.

Hard pass at 9…if it’s him or Van Ness….well, I loved the 80s movie Lucas.

Was just researching him also - he’s on my list at 9, but I saw some of the same lack of instincts as you did. His small hands are a mess and he’s slow off the snap … but once he moves, he has a really fast first couple of snaps. You can coach him up on those.

Both Clemson DLs (Breese) are hard to figure … you have two Top 15 talents, yet not a ton of production between the two. Both play a little stiff.

I have Van Ness significantly higher as I can see the traits much clearer.

Not me. In that tape, I see Murphy quite often double teamed, and I witnessed a lot of speed on that sack. Don't see near the same athleticism from Van Ness. I like Van Ness, but lower in the first.

I saw the same, Yogi. Also it very much looked like Georgia was scheming around Murphy. Running to the other side and throwing over his rush.

I think we already have plenty of guys who just miss making the play.
The secret is to work less as individuals and more as a team. As a coach, I play not my eleven best, but my best eleven.

Did he even register a tackle?

If I’m his coach, I’m going insane with him running himself out of every play.

I’m somewhere in between on my thoughts on this guy. And definitely thinking no for #9. He has good burst, flashes a bit, and has nice closing speed. However, his discipline, which may/may not be instincts is poor. I realize this was a HUGE game, but he’s overpenetrating way too often, and as a consequence is finding himself out of position. When he does pursue just to the heels, he’s more effective. The one sack was purely schemed for him and he went unblocked. There was another on a similar stunt where the interior lineman just tackled him, LOL. Is he coachable? Traits are there, but is that what you want at 9? Gotta be a lower slot for what I saw from that game.

It might make sense to watch some more recent film. That game was from almost TWO YEARS ago. Sept 4, 2021. I would imagine he improved his game with almost two entire seasons of development after that game.

I don’t have an opinion of him yet, but when I saw that it was the beginning of the 2021 season, I decided it’s not really a fair example of where he is at in his development.

Watching that Geogia game more closely, I find Murphy finding himself in no man's land quite a bit--halfway between the QB and an outlet. I think much of that was Georgia's scheme. He also bit quite a bit on play action pass. Again, Georgia's scheme. Watching more tape, the biggest criticism I have with him as opposed to Van Ness is Van Ness' non-stop motor. Murphy seems to give up on plays a lot. But his athleticism as opposed to Van Ness' really is indisputable.

I think I'd really like a trade down at #9 if we can. This is a very deep edge class. The one guy I really want though is ADETOMIWA ADEBAWORE. But I want him as a 3T. Another guy I'm really liking is Yaya Diaby. Very active.

Clemson reporter likes both guys but shared disappointment in production from both guys. Notable to me was him saying Murphy is super smart and Breesee is trending up

I sim draft him in R4 a fair amount lately - not sure that he'll last that long, though.

My hierarchy of players that are likely available at 9:

1. Murph
2. Paris
3. Quentin
4. LukeNess monster
5. Gonzalez

Carter is a hard pass for me. Even if he doesn't completely bust, we would be locked into giving him a mega 2nd contract. Not sure how motivated he will be with $50M+ guaranteed.

Skoronski is a guard to me and more suited for a mid-to-late first
