According to PFF draft simulation #1006:
Second:
Tuipulotu ED (maybe 3T)
Carter ED
Karl Brooks Bowling Green ED (probably 3T)
Nick Herbig ED (probably 3-4 guy)
Third round:
Siaki Ika (NT)
Keeanu Benton (DL)
Derick Hall (smallish edge but super quick and top end speed to power)
Availability varies but the rankings are constant and often at odds with other sites
Too much ED here Dave...
That's Mr. ED to you.
Of course

Van Ness????? Why all the love?
The kid was not even a starter in college. Now we expect him to be some kinda JJ Watt or something?
He may turn out to be very good but I am getting some serious Mamula vibes here. 2nd or 3rd round I would be fine. But as a first-rounder? Hell no.
I could be wrong about him but my theory is you don't go for unknowns in the first round. EVER. Let someone else roll the dice on them.
But if you can't be a starter in college why in the hell would we think he can start in the NFL? Ok maybe on our D-Line but not for most.
Well...I mean...pretty much everybody thinks he's a top fifteen pick? I get that he's not a sure thing, but folks are all excited by his measurables...
My mother's love was inexplicably linked to kickball.
Maybe it's another case where measurable don't tell the full story because there is not a corresponding record of quantifiable game-time performance against contemporary opponents.
If that's how it is with him I pass.
There is a GM named Poles
Who has a clear set of goals
He’s rebuilt his team
So Bears’ fans can dream
Of winning some more Super Bowls

Fourteen sacks in two seasons, in college, in a rotation. Not bad at all.

The "not a starter" thing seemed outrageous to me. But if you look at snaps - 478, 462 - you realize that's kind of misleading.
And 13.5 sacks and 45 hurries on 940 snaps is not nothing in production.
Sure, he'd be more appealing with another year and a bigger arsenal of moves.
But you get 4-5 years to develop him.
I'd gamble it doesn't take to many for him to be worth it.

I'm almost tired of saying this, but it's a Ferentz thing. > 450 snaps in each of your first two (non-redshirt) years is a coup on that team, not a cause for suspicion.
So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.
Friendship is better than fighting, but fighting is more useful.

So it is safe to say that you would be willing to gamble on a maybe because he is super athletic? Your choice.
I personally wouldn't. Gambling in the first round is usually a recipe for disaster.
If it came down to taking a RB I know will produce or a DE that I believe I can coach up into a player in 4 to 5 years I am taking the RB. I am really getting on board with Robinson after this discussion.
Sean Payton, Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells have a simple philosophy to the draft. Draft players in the first round reach in the later.
First round running back, no thanks. With Herbert and Foreman that would be a complete waste of a pick if you want this to be a complete team sometime in the future.
