Plus we share the same last name, so that has to mean something this time of year in mock drafts when getting into the 4th round.

FSU didn’t have a super dynamic passing game, especially after Jordan Travis got hurt, but Keon Coleman is an absolute playmaker. 6’3” 215. And he returned punts, so you know he’s got wheels.

This sorta seems like a “quantity over quality” kinda draft.

QB is the key driver in how the draft will shape up.
I went with this one as a compromise between Spend Little to Nothing on QB and Take a QB at 1.
In order to do that, you have to trade down and accumulate.
I'm not fixated on that QB scenario being the best one, but I don't hate it, either. Spend Little to Nothing on QB is the one I hate. Take a QB at 1 is probably where it ends up and I'm not against that right now. But it's awfully boring to mock. Pick between Caleb and Drake, make one more pick, and then your draft is practically over.
I think a lot of people are obsessed with "Top 10 WR or the draft is a disaster" and I'm not in that category. There's still plenty of big holes and the resource doesn't have to necessarily go that way, in my book.


Still, I don't see a big lack of quality.
You've got arguably the best pure pash rusher in the draft, arguably the best FS in the draft, arguably the best C in the draft, a R1 QB, and a total of 6 guys you would very reasonably hope develop into starters.

Bears need quality at this point, have enough JAGs on the roster.

I disagree.
The lack of quality depth showed through many times in many places.

At WR, they have 1 star + 2 young guys that maybe can grow into being Not Entirely Useless, and junk. There's 3 jobs wide open.
At IOL, they have 3 guys who have been injury plagued (one a FA) and nothing of consequence behind them. Their best interior backup (Whitehair) is gone.
At DE, as soon as they had an injury, they were back to giving DRob meaningful snaps.
At TE they had good depth in 2023, but Tonyan and Lewis are both likely gone, leaving nothing.

It is a build around Justin with a way out mock.

Here I think it is important to pick MHJ in third place. If you're betting on an average QB, it's not enough to have good players around him. We need superstars who do what the QB does elsewhere.

You could also take Newton with the second first-round pick if you think he would be a big upgrade.

There are many examples that show that it makes sense to put a rookie QB on the bench. What I particularly like about J. J. is his age (I'm critical of Bo, for example).

The mock would leave all doors open. If Justin doesn't work, we have a way out and don't have to sacrifice an additional first round pick next year.

I went to South Carolina and have seen everyone of Alshon's and Xavier's college games (Deebo Samuel too). Xavier's game is different than Alshon's, it's more like Deebo's. Alshon used head fakes and body positioning to high point balls. Xavier uses his speed and quickness to get open, like Deebo. It's been reported that Xavier has run a sub 4.3 forty and has good quickness in and out of breaks. At a legit 6'3" and 225 pounds, he is a beast physically. To top it off he returns kicks and was used as a gunner on special teams! I really think his stock is about to shoot up after the senior bowl. Best comp to him is DK Metcalf due to his size and speed.

Sounds like what Chase Claypool could have been.

I like Legette, I just have some concern about his breakout season coming at age 22. I'd roll dice on him at the beginning of Day 3 myself.
