The Bears trade the pick they got from Carolina (#1 overall) to Washington and get the 6th pick and 39th pick in the 2024 draft along with a first round pick in '25 and '26. Poles also puts the squeeze on them and gets a 3rd round pick in '25 to sweeten the deal.
Our picks go as follows:
#6 - Jared Verse, EDGE FSU - fix the biggest hole we have left on the team
#32 - Javon Bullard - S Georgia - Eddie Jackson needs to be replaced soon (oh yeah, that hole we had at DE didn't stop us from winning the Superbowl)
#39 - Cedric Van Pran - C Georgia - Whitehair does fine in '23, but he's getting long in the tooth and we let him walk
#64 - Johnny Wilson - WR FSU - Don't think we can keep the band together at WR, so need to restock that. I pulled a Pace move and just drafted guys from the same school so the scouts don't have to travel as much.
Way too early 2024 mock draft

Too early to give up all hope yet but I'm starting to look at mock draft already for '24. Hopefully not a QB but we'll know a lot more by 6 or 8 games in; if Fields just doesn't look like the answer, will they throw Bagent out to miraculously see if he cuts it?
I'm beating the drum for Michael Penix, QB, University of Washington if the Bears go for another QB. The guy's a throwing machine in Washington's pro style offense. I'd snag his prime receiver, Rome Odunze also, I don't see Claypool returning next year.

Not because I've given up, but because this is probably the last time I'll be able to start one of these at 1.1 and 1.2. It'll be interesting to look back at this in six months or so.
PFN
1.1 (Caleb Williams) to Arizona for 1.7, 1.10, 2.38, 3.69, 2025 1st
1.2: Marvin Harrison, Jr. WR, Ohio St. Natch.
1.7: Olumuyiwa Fashanu, LT, Penn St. Natch. Braxton Jones as your swing tackle? Yes, please and thank you.
1.10: Chop Robinson, DE, Penn St. They've got him as a second-rounder, I see a top-10 DE for us.
2.38: Laiatu Latu, DE, UCLA. See how Eberflus likes coaching...um...a talented pass rush.
2.39 (Nate Wiggins) to LV for 2.40, 2025 6th. Because...wait for it....
2.40: Sedric Van Pran, C, Georgia. And the league wept.
3.69: McKinnley Jackson, DT, Texas A&M. Perfect complement IMSO to Dexter and Pickens. I do like our vets, but this gives us a potentially elite rotation to choose from.
3.70 (Decorian Patterson), LV 2025 6th to Denver for 3.82, Denver 3rd
3.82: Max Melton, CB, Rutgers. Hyper-athletic and experienced.
4.101 (Johnny Wilson), 2025 Miami 6th to Bengals for 4.103, 6.165
4.103: Beau Brade, S, Maryland. Perfect addition to a position that needs it. Probably add a vet, too.
4.126: Cade Stover, TE, Ohio St. Lots of promising TEs here, but Stover's upside is ideal for us. And not for nothin', another reason for Fields to stick around on reasonable terms.
5.132: Tate Ratledge, G, Georgia. Didn't Dan Feeney sign a one-year contract? We need another IOL with a mullet and an awkward moustache. And Ratledge can play.
6.165: MarShawn Lloyd, RB, USC. Speed, speed, speed. And STs.
Plus Arizona's first next year and Denver's third. That'd be six draft picks within the top 85 or so, half of them toward the top of each round, two years after the Carolina trade.
Edits for a few minor goofs.

So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.
Friendship is better than fighting, but fighting is more useful.

Poles would be an early candidate for GM of the year with a draft like that.karhu wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 4:42 pm Not because I've given up, but because this is probably the last time I'll be able to start one of these at 1.1 and 1.2. It'll be interesting to look back at this in six months or so.

Not mine, a 4 rounder from Bears Goggles On but would add some serious talent:
Trade the #1 from Carolina to the Cardinals for 7, 10, 38, and 69 in the 2024 draft, while also receiving the Cardinal's first-round pick in 2025.
#2: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State (highly dependent on the team totally sucking the rest of the way, which doesn't seem likely; there are victories to be had versus several teams
#7: Joe Alt, LT, Notre Dame
#10: Jared Verse, EDGE - Florida St.
#38: Laiatu Latu, DE, UCLA
#39: Sedrick Van Pran, C, Georgia
#69: Cole Bishop, S, Utah
#70: Kris Jenkins , DT, Michigan
#101: Luke Lachey, TE, Iowa
#121: Tory Horton, WR, Colorado State
If I was the Bears, I would be thinking of drafting another Guard somewhere along the way to add some depth to the interior. Don't agree with that pick at #121 but that depends on getting Scott more involved in the passing game.

Figured since we aren't playing until tonight and I'm sitting here watching the 49'ers and listening to the amazing Tony Romo why not do a mock draft?
2. Marvin Harrison Jr. : I took a gamble, thinking that the Cards were going to go QB and traded down one spot. In turn I got Arizona's #2 and #16 plus a 2025 1st. Drafting MHJ is a must. Imagine pairing this guy up with DJ Moore for the next 5 years. How do you not do that?
3. Olumuyiwa Fashanu OT Penn State: I believe in building teams from the ball outwards. If I have an opportunity to get a franchise LT, even though the current one may be OK, I will do it every time.
16. Kalen King CB Penn State: This is my attempt at getting a lock down corner to compete with JJ for CB1. I'm fine with JJ walking in FA because he's nothing special. But Marshall, why didn't you draft DL here? Because I feel that King is a better CB prospect than the remaining DL prospects were plus I also cannot factor in the impact of FA where we will have $100M to spend with several DL options potentially out there.
34. Bo Nix QB Oregon: This draft is deep at QB and I deliberately waited for R2 to get one. Really happy here. Athletic. Mobile. Good arm.
38. Sedrick Van Pran. OC Georiga: Can we all agree that this is a need?
69. Raheim Sanders RB Arkansas: This is a big boy at 6'2" and 242 pounds. Dual threat. I don't care what anybody says, the RB position is massively undervalued. Our OL, before the upgrades I just hypothetically drafted, was already doing a good to great job at run blocking. I don't see why it wouldn't be dominant now. Add this guy to the committee behind that line and lookout.
Add to this the 2025 R1 I got from Arizona which could be top 5.

This is a master piece. MHJ and Fashanu? If that happens it will be like Sayers and Butkus 2.0The Marshall Plan wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2023 4:27 pm Figured since we aren't playing until tonight and I'm sitting here watching the 49'ers and listening to the amazing Tony Romo why not do a mock draft?

Ended up with #2 and #3. Cards went with the OT from Penn State at #1 (highly unlikely), making it easy to trade #2 to NE for #5, #37 in the 2nd, and a 2025 2nd and 3rd, figuring the Giants weren't taking a QB at #4. NE took Drake Maye; Bears would have taken him at #5 if the Pats took Williams:
#3: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, OSU
#5: Caleb Williams, QB, USC
#36: Sedric Van Pran, C, Georgia
#37: J.T. Tuimoloau, DE, OSU
#67: McKinley Jackson, DT, TAMU (a monster in the middle)
#68: Jaden Hicks, S, Wazoo (because Eddie will be gone)
#99: Brandon Coleman, OG, TCU (an OT in college but shift him inside)
#128: Brevyn Spann-Ford, TE, Minnesota (6'7, saw what the Chargers 6'8" TE did to the Bears yesterday)
#133: Reuben Fatheree II, OT, TAMU (another monster)
NE #2 2025 pick
NE #3 2025 pick
#3: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, OSU
#5: Caleb Williams, QB, USC
#36: Sedric Van Pran, C, Georgia
#37: J.T. Tuimoloau, DE, OSU

Midseason mock. I don’t like to predict trades, but I am anticipating both Sweat and JJ get new deals.
Draft spots per PFN.
Round 1
#2: Marvin Harrison Jr. - WR, Ohio State (6’4” 205lbs)
2023: 48 rec. 889 yards 8 TDs(so far)
2022: 77 rec. 1,263 yards 14 TDs
Notes: For a while I wasn’t with it, but I’m drinking the kool-aid now. The quarterback plans for 2024 are unknown. Harrison Jr. is the best non-passer in the country. Pairing him with DJ Moore is any quarterbacks dream.
#3: Olu Fashanu - OT, Penn State (6’6” 320lbs)
2023: 0 sacks allowed in 8 starts at LT(so far)
2022: 0 sacks allowed in 8 starts at LT (missed 5 to injury).
Notes: Bears have opened the season with a different left tackle in 3 of the last 4 years. Fashanu can bring much needed stability to the second most important offensive position. Best tackle should be the goal here. Notre Dame’s Joe Alt or BYU’s Kingsley Suamataia are also possibilities.
Round 3
#68: Marcus Harris - DT, Auburn (6’3” 295lbs)
2023: 31tkls - 7.5 TFLs - 4 sacks - 1 FF - 1PD(so far)
2022: 30tkls - 6.5 TFLs - 2 sacks - 1 PD
2021: 27tkls - 6 TFLs - 2 sacks
Notes: Under the radar right now. I haven’t seen him on any draft sites, but he’s gotten better every year, and he’s playing his best ball right now as a senior. Can play 3-tech or 5-tech. Super athletic. I think he’ll test really well. I also like NC State’s Davin Vann and Duke’s DeWayne Carter.
Round 4
#99: Jared Ivey - DE, Ole Miss (6’5” 265lbs)
2023: 31tkls - 8 TFLs - 5.5 sacks(so far)
2022: 37tkls - 4.5 TFLs - 3.5 sacks - 1 FF
2021: 32tkls - 6 TFLs - 1.5 sacks - 1FF - 1 PD(Georgia Tech)
Notes: Big-bodied base defensive end. Transfered to Ole Miss and played a rotational role. Had a slow start to 2023, but he has 4.5 sacks in his last 3 games.
#128: Kenny Logan - S, Kansas (6’ 205lbs)
2023: 55tlks - 6 TFLs - 1 INT - 1 TD- 3 PDs - 1FF(so far)
2022: 106tkls - 1.5 TFLs - 2 INTs - 5 PDs - 1 FF
2021: 110tkls - 4 TFLs - 1 INT - 6 PDs - 2 FF
2020: 58tkls - 1 TFL - 1 sack - 2 INTs - 3 PDs - 1FF(at cornerback)
Notes: Not the ball hawk Eddie is, but he’s versatile, and he’s always around the football. He’s loyal as hell, too. He considered declaring after the 2022 season before it even started, but after he helped Kansas become bowl-eligible for the first time since 2008, he returned for the 2023 season to try to expand on the teams success, and the Jayhawks currently sit at a 6-2 record.
Round 5
#133: Isaiah Adams - OG, Illinois (6’5” 320lbs)
2023: 8 starts - 2 at LG - 6 at RT(so far)
2022: Started all 13 games - 12 at LG - 1at LT
Notes: Great size. Versatile plug-and-play lineman. Two-time team captain. 21 straight starts. Hard worker. Played at Garden City CC in 2021. Got offers from over a dozen schools.
Draft spots per PFN.

I have a hard time disagreeing with any mock draft that gets us both MHJ and Fashanu which are actually realistic possibilities.
Whatever it is people think of Braxton Jones I can't see arguing with taking a franchise LT that gives us an OL with two great bookends plus Jenkins.
Couple questions and I'm only asking:
1) What made you not draft a QB?
2) Why didn't you take Van Pran? Was he off the board?

1. It wasn’t easy. The way things are as of today, I believe Justin is our best option for 2024. I don’t think anyone in college is an immediate upgrade over Justin. So, especially now with the sweat trade and sign, we put as much talent around the quarterback as possible, and hope to get a franchise guy in the next year to year and a half. The Marshall Plan wrote: ↑Sat Nov 04, 2023 12:01 pmGreat job.alexwilkins wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 12:21 am Midseason mock. Is the LT from Penn State falling a bit? I’ve heard he’s had some issues this season..
Is Marvin Harrison Jr really that good? A lot of the tape I’ve seen shows him making easy catches…how is he in space? Any tape of him going up and mossing guys?
I feel like this draft class started out promising, but now I’m getting concerned.

Seen a few mocks recently with other LTs taken before the Penn State guy. But I haven't seen or read anything knocking him down so I'm not sure why.cblaz11 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2023 6:43 am Is the LT from Penn State falling a bit? I’ve heard he’s had some issues this season..

There have been others saying the MHJ isn't a "money" guy as you indicate. The other OSU receiver, the guy Nabers from LSU, Ordunze from Washington make a lot of contested catches. Haven't seen anything of the guy, Coleman, from Florida State but he's rated pretty high. Nabers could be the 2nd WR off the board after MHJ but with the success of Ja'Mar Chase, who's about the same size, this guy might be worth a couple of looks.

Odunze makes contested catches because he doesn't separate particularly well. Still, to be fair, he makes them.Grizzled wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2023 2:16 pmSeen a few mocks recently with other LTs taken before the Penn State guy. I don't see the same strength in Nabers' game that showed up in Chase's, but I think he'd just kill it as an NFL slot.
Harrison Jr is an excellent receiver. He doesn't have the physical build of Calvin Johnson or Julio Jones or AJ Green — he gives up 10 pounds to Moss, even — so it's hard for me to be confident in a top 5 pick on him. He's built kinda like Corey Davis (though he's faster than Davis on tape) or DJ Chark. If he plateaus at either one of those two, you're probably not going to be happy spending a top pick on him. I think he's quite a bit better than that, mind you, but the lack of bulk concerns me. That was one of the knocks on his dad, though, and he did all right for himself.

For the LTs keep an eye on JC Latham from Alabama. He currently plays RT I believe, but from what I've read Saban doesn't want to switch him and then make an issue at RT.Grizzled wrote: ↑Thu Nov 16, 2023 2:16 pmSeen a few mocks recently with other LTs taken before the Penn State guy. Won't speak for anyone else, but I think he's a keeper, and at LT.
Some developmental depth would be nice at T, but I'm not spending a top.q0 pick on that.

I agree with this.
B Jones, D Wright and Jenkins assuming he signs are the future of the line, we do need to keep refreshing it though.

This is how it's done.
Gave up MHJ, which hurts, but Nabers is no slouch.
3 high grade starters on the OL. An OL consisting of all elite level prospects and that animal Jenkins.
I love it.

For those of you taking Van Pran at C in the 2nd: I get it, but I think you may be higher on him than NFL teams are; I see Van Pran as a phone booth blocker who is a notch below what teams are hoping for athletically. (Of course, now he'll probably prove me wrong about that at the Combine. )
I personally have Zach Frazier from West Virginia as my top C. He's a former HS wrestler (won four consecutive heavyweight state championships in VA) who had 8 starts as a 2020 true freshman at LG (1 at C) and moved to C full time in 2021, where he's played ever since (35 consecutive starts and counting). Plus he's been first team all-Academic Big 12 two years running (2023 will be 3).

I guess there are those of us that think the Bears already have a future franchise LT.The Marshall Plan wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 7:27 amIt's not a lack of faith or a direct negative on Braxton Jones.
It's that LT is probably the second most important position on offense and if you can get a franchise guy there you do it.

He's played very well. My uninformed opinion, though, is that he will be evaluated over the next 7 games also. The Bears hopefully won't be drafting in high enough where premium LTs are available and need to at least consider taking one.

I’m a bit worried about B Jones injury, neck injuries can be chronic.
Love SVP or Frazier at Center. Poles has to draft one of them.
Love Johnny Wilson (Florida State) as an alternative WR.
