After initially suspending Fitgerald for allowing hazing activities of lower classmen by upper classmen, the university, over the weekend, terminated the contract of Pat Fitzgerald. He led the team to a 110-101 record in 17 seasons with 2 Big Ten West titles and 5 bowl victories, pretty remarkable for the school considered the "Ivy League" member of the Big 10:

He was one of the guys I wanted the Bears to hire. Harbaugh was my #1, Daboll was my #2, Fitz was my #3. Dodged a bullet on that one.

Great football coach, but this is the era of accountability and consequences in sports, so not really much of a choice to be made.
He'll end up being an assistant at Alabama or some shit and eventually be a "redemption story" coaching in the Pac 12 or some garbage.

I'm glad he's gone.
The meatball homerness of Northwestern is staggering.
Then people actually wanted this guy to be the HC of the Bears. Based upon what?

The same ones who want Ditka or Singletary/etc to coach the Bears. Everything insular, everything nostalgic, everything Chicago, always. The Marshall Plan wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 4:20 am I'm glad he's gone.
