Offer thoughts on the following: (based on a few comments we've had so far)

1. Reduce rosters to 16 overall, with 10 keepers moving forward.
2. Add 1 round to the rookie/FA draft
3. Open to ideas for division re-alignment. (if 15 teams, go to 3 divisions; if 14 teams go to 2 divisions)?
4. (ONLY IF REDUCED ROSTERS) I would like to see an IR/Taxi Squad option to develop late round draft picks. ie, draft a WR/TE/QB in round 3 or later and you can place that player on the taxi squad for up to 2 years as a developmental prospect. Limit of One slot per team. (personally, I would exclude RB's from this, but if everyone else wants to include them I'd relent.)

Co-signed. I like these a lot. You're even a bit more aggressive than I was suggesting, with 16 and 10. But I DO agree that would make the league a lot better. Forcing decisions makes it a lot more about skill and GM-ing. And would enable quicker turnarounds for teams.

I just reduced roster and keepers by 4. It currently in 14 keepers and 20-man roster with an IR spot.
But with that aggressiveness I'd like to be sensitive with late round picks for development. Some of these guys take 2-3 years to develop.

So 12 keepers then? I need to go and cut two guys, won’t be hard lol

Or do you mean you reduced by 4 each, so 10 keepers?

I think if there is a config that will let the admin set an IR/Practice Squad with 3 slots it would be awesome. But they'd have to qualify for IR and be what - a rookie or 2nd year player to qualify for the PS? I have no idea if the site could handle that. I know it could handle expanding IR to 2 players. I don't know if there is a PS option.

From my experience, IR in fantasy football tends to be abused

Like the ideas. I think roster size/IR spots should be somewhat dependent on amount of teams. I do favor more than just 16 regular spots for leagues over 12 teams.

I haven’t had any issues with IR abuse but needs to be policed.

How does that happen? Don't they automatically qualify and disqualify players by official status? I know that some folks use it to stash players that can come back and contribute later - but that is either missed opportunity for others, or someone cut them. I don't see how it is abused.

Isn't it the opposite? The more teams in the league, the fewer spots teams should have. The current sitation with being unable to rebuild a team and absent FA market is because all the decent players are stashed and unused on teams.

I look at it from a FA standpoint that less slots, the more moves for byes that you have to make. But to your point less than 12 teams way more options for those slots so not as significant. Might be personal preference for me though.

I did want to say it’s been refreshing that we have the newer teams providing so much great feedback. Leagues can’t be stagnant.

I was thinking more about this and thought maybe a phased in approach like we did going from non-PPR to PPR over 2 years is a way to go.

No thoughts about divisions as even no divisions can work.

My thought now is we go 20 roster spots to 18 and 14 keepers to 12 this year and add another round to the draft, I think that if we are at 14/15 teams we get a lot of established players to add along with more draft pick value. We still have plan of 16 and 10 but evaluate after season if that’s still the right end goal. I also think for those that aren’t as active on the boards but it’s not quite as drastic of a change all at once.

Agreed.

One issue is it seems like communication for the league is different, with different people getting updates from different places (here, email, the site, and maybe even a FB page). How would a consensus be built for a good plan?

I'm keeping a defense and a guy who isn't even signed to a team, so no. My squad blows.

Good point. I think we limit it to here and the site. I think DD is the only one who doesn't have an account here and does it on the site.

Reducing the roster size and then adding the IR Taxi squad thing seem to be contradictory in terms of allowing more players available in the pool. Also, I don't want to have to administer that taxi squad part. This league has an IR spot and it gets used. In fact all our leagues I see the IR spots used all the time.

DD is the only one who doesn't have an account here (he's a founding member of the league though) so we can do all things here.

I say we vote on what seems to be the consensus in this thread...

1. Go to 18 players per team and 12 keepers.
2. Increase the draft to 5 rounds

The divisions will depend on teams. Looks like 46Blitz isn't going to respond and Ban Flanders might not either. I'm not really keen on trying to find new owners again and again so I'm alright with reducing the teams by 1 or 2 this year depending on if they respond and their players go into the draft pool.

How does that sound?

I"m a Yes. I understand re: the additional admin role & don't wish that on anyone. So 18 and 12 is enough players to include a few developmental players and have to choose between that & hoarding vets they will never play.

Thanks!

One other quick question. Since we would be adding additional value to the draft with keepers 13 and 14 not being kept, and possibly significant players from 1 or 2 teams being folded, should we reverse the order of a round (like round 2 or 3). The additional value added in the draft is extra for teams at the top that now get that extra unexpected value for 5 rounds.

I do think it will be a slight advantage to teams picking higher this time - but not huge. I think before anyone dumps a starter level player they'll try to trade them. At least I would. I think it is going to free up developmental player types, 3rd TE and 4th QB and 5th RB. The biggest impact I think will be to make FA more viable with a few real QBs, TEs and RBs being available in mid-season to pick up when someone gets injured. 2 fewer players x 16 is 32 more players available. Which is about 32 more than we have had! lol

I don't care if the order is reversed at some point if some folks would want that - like the last couple of rounds.

I vote yes to 18/12 and 5 rounds. I think there’s been enough time that if we don’t have responses from last two it’s in best interest of active owners to contract to 14.

I’ve done a number of leagues where there’s been dispersal drafts and they always flip order round 3 for balance. So I think going 12-1 round three is fair since this is a unique draft. Next year maybe not.
