(1) We play an even number of games for each team (14 games over 15 weeks) and also play week 18 of the NFL season keeping 6 playoff teams, but that will include the last week of the regular season being the championship, where players may not play.
(2) Keep the championship in week 17 of the NFL season and 6 playoff teams, but then not every team will play the same number of games, leaving some with 1 more game.
(3) Only have 4 playoff teams, which allows everyone the same games, play each team once, each team has 1 bye, and the championship is in week 17 of the NFL season.

I’m not that good at math but wouldn’t we get 14 regular season games and 3 weeks of playoffs for 17 weeks
If we wanted to play each team once we’d have 14 weeks then 3 weeks for 6 team playoffs bringing us to week 17 as the superbowl right?

I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

Unfortunately, since we have an odd number of teams, that means 1 team doesn't play each week. So 14 weeks gives you 13 games. Also 14 weeks only gives 14 teams a bye, so one team does not get a bye, and therefore plays an additional game. You also don't end up playing 1 team.Atkins&Rebel wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 2:23 pm I’m not that good at math but wouldn’t we get 14 regular season games and 3 weeks of playoffs for 17 weeks

This isn't necessarily a bad outcome or prohibitive in anyway, just funky.

I was leaning toward 3 but the more I think about it the bye weeks for each team will end up far more unfair overall than two teams ending up not playing each other. I don't see that as being a big deal to have two teams not face each other in the regular season. So much can happen during the season that doesn't matter.
So the uneven (not playing everyone) schedule with the week 17 playoff is the best answer. Having the championship week 18 just can't happen it shouldn't even be an option.

I voted #2. I just like the idea of having maybe half the league in the hunt of a playoff seat late in the season. If you have 6 teams make you likely have at least 2 other teams with a shot come week 13.
If you go with just 4 playoff teams, you have a lot more teams that feel they have nothing to play for and stop managing their roster.
