So Poles says of Nate Davis, "I just feel like he's in a better place now." Isn't that what you say about someone who has just died?

Really worries me. This guy feels like a dude whose head is anywhere but in the game. Lots of baggage.Middleguard wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 2:39 pm So Poles says of Nate Davis, "I just feel like he's in a better place now." Isn't that what you say about someone who has just died?

It’s a shame with Jenkins, I am a big fan too.
But 1) he’s not healthy and explains why he wasn’t drafted higher 2) he doesn’t seem like a guy who likes to practice.
Poles wants players who are healthy and players who bust their ass in practice and perform in the game.
TJ only seems to tick one of those boxes.

Regarding Jenkins, we don't know anything, let it play out. But it's looking like it could be the beginning of the end.
...stay tuned

Unusually candid.
Doesn't really sound like a roster that's up to the task of playoff contention this year.
The interior of the OL and exterior of the DL (now and going forward) don't seem like they're in very good shape.

I don't believe #2 is correct. Flus wouldn't have him as a starter if that were the case, there's no evidence of it beyond some flimsy college comment years ago.Ditka’s dictaphone wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 2:48 pm It’s a shame with Jenkins, I am a big fan too.

Sadly, #1 appears to be correct.

On Jenk I won't give up on him if he comes back this season and plays most (like 11 or 12 of 13) of the games & plays how he did last year. That is valuable. Guys get hurt, and sometimes snakebit guys end up stabilizing. Also young guys grow up and get more professional (or many do). If he doesn't play most of the year, and well... G definitely goes to a priority in the draft next year.
Keep in mind Poles didn't say they only have 70-80% of the roster where they want it. He said those percentages of the holes. There were not 100% holes. I imagine he thought there were holes at CB, 2 at LB, a couple at DT, a couple at DE, WR, TE, and a couple on the Oline. So like 10-11 holes and he's saying he thinks he addressed maybe 8 of them well based on the percentages comment. That means there are 2 maybe 3 starters that he'd like to upgrade right now if he could. To me that would be Center, LG and one DE. There you go with the draft priorities for next year (plus probably WR). That doesn't mean the guys he'd like to upgrade aren't at least serviceable in a competitive year, and couldn't be part of a team that contends. I don't think in any way he meant to imply they can't.

I mean we do know things. And that he’s been hurt every year he’s been in the NFL.The Grizzly One wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 2:50 pm Regarding Jenkins, we don't know anything, let it play out. But it's looking like it could be the beginning of the end.

The circumstances surrounding those injuries, and the context with which he was sidelined can be debated. But he’s just not been available. We know that.

Yes, I should have clarified since asking anyone to remember what I said weeks ago is unfair.wab wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 3:58 pmI mean we do know things. I meant we do not know what happened with this injury. It could have been something fluky unrelated to his previous problems and he will be fine. Or it could be more of the same old problems thus the beginning of the end.
That is I meant that we don't know.

I will quietly add this to my tally of reasons I believe Poles has always thought of this as a full 2 year rebuild at the least
2023 Preseason Downside prediction:
5-6 wins, never really healthy all season, a constant shuffling.
We're potentially in a position to draft in the Top 5 again, depending on the Carolina team, and probably have a low-teens (or better) pick ourselves.

Regarding Jenkins.
Wake me up around Halloween for me to make up my mind.
