I get it’s only one game and the Chiefs were down two of their best players. Don’t want to put tooooo much weight into it. But they looked pretty damn good.
Gotta give Dan Campbell some credit. Dude has balls of steel.

Holy Matt Nagy, anyone else get PTSD watching some of those Chiefs offensive (pun intended) play-calls?
On topic... Lions are good. They were hyped leading up to the season and what did they do? They beat the champs in their own house.
IMO they're the team to beat in the NFCN. Fucking hell.

@The Marshall Plan said awhile ago that he doesnt think anyone in the AFC can stop the chiefs with Mahomes, but they may have discovered their own kryptonite.

I always liked Montgomery, so call me biased, but it was good to see him play so well tonight. Perfect Monty game: tough yards that genuinely mattered, big contributions in pass protection, left the announcers to gasp at another RB's flash, scored the game-winning TD on a run that SportsCenter will give the oh-by-the-way treatment but that gets a bit more impressive every time you re-watch it. St. Brown's good and all, but I thought Montgomery did more than anyone else to get that win tonight.

Not worried about the Chiefs. It's like Michael Jordan or Tom Brady. As long as they have Mahomes it doesn't make sense to pick them to lose.

I only watched the last 6 minutes or so, but the Lions were lucky to escape with the win. Everything was set up for them to do the Lions thing and choke it away. The Chiefs receivers/backs dropped like 3 big passes on their final drive, including the one on first down that would have probably put the game away. Before that drive, the Lions had a chance to put it away and turned it over on downs. One of their TDs came on a fluky INT that was batted in the air, meaning their offense only produced 14 points.
Credit is due when you walk into KC and get a win, but what I saw didn't scare me.

They get so much push from their OL…that’s sustainable offense that isn’t going away. Lions are good.

They look formidable, but Goff still nearly had a game-breaking pick to a defensive lineman and Mahomes was without his Hall of Fame tight end. But a win is a win, and I'm delighted for the Lions fans.

OMG LOOK!!!!
A running game and great OL play actually matter.
Nah bullshit.
That Mahomes guy must be a bust. He did throw a pick-6 after all.

The Lions are a good team and a fun team. I fucking love it!
But man, despite how good their run game looks I still think they go only so far as Goff can take them, and I do not trust him to take them all the way.

Speaking of OL, I didn't get to sit and watch the game but had it on while doing other things. It looked like the RT for KC was moving early - a lot! They finally threw a flag on KC's last possession and that hurt them. Not as much as the WRs dropping about 27 very catchible passes.

My biggest takeaway was that their draft picks look legit. If they're getting big plays from Campbell, Gibbs, and LaPorta on top of that OL and pass rush... they're for real. The limitation might be Jared Goff but I'm thinking this is a 10 win team.

I mean, to be fair, drafting a running back in the first 15 picks is pretty dicey. For all we know, Gibbs may only play a couple seasons. Unless you have a Sayers-esque tear of a short career and/or win a title, I'd rather take a chance on a kid who could give you a solid 4-5 years on their first contract.

Gibbs had 60 combined yards in 1 game and we're rewriting positional values now?

Not only that, but they were lining up in illegal formations roughly every play. Did you catch Collinsworth calling the RT a slot receiver?Arkansasbear wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2023 8:49 am

I wondered why no one on Detroit's sideline was yelling at the refs about all that until I noticed that every flinch, early start, and illegal setup was a blatant tell. If they're going to let us know about each play before the snap, let 'em.

Gibbs showed a lot of potential. In about 4 weeks he will be the guy getting most of the carries. He is a homerun hitter. He is going to become a big time threat.

Really, dan campbell lucking into ben johnson is the secret to their success so far, imo. And that dude is gonna be a HC in the next few years. I sure hope they have someone in the pipeline.

zzzzz...Yawn....
Quite frankly, I wasn't impressed by either team. If the Bears can't beat either one of them the way they played, we're in trouble. How many drops did KC have? Seemed like every series. And of course the Nagy input happened again--a trick play on short yardage. Just take the fucking first down dumbass. The Lions meanwhile had four three and outs and only three drives of over 21 yards. And this with the Chiefs missing their best defender, yet the Lions still couldn't get anything going up the middle with the exception of David's TD. Really not impressed at all.

Kadarius Toney was the Lions MVP for the game.
Dude single-handedly lost the game.

With limited preseason, I’ll wait until week 3 to overreact.
