Dude single-handedly lost the game.
This.

They had a stat that was like Toney was -2.8 or something per pass in Expected Points

So every 3 passes to him was like giving the other team a Touchdown.

It was just about the worst game a WR has ever had

Lions laying a beating on the Pack. Something I have not seen the Bears do in years.

I love how this Lions team is put together.

Jared Goff is an NFL QB - so Montgomery doesnt need to split time in the backfield with multiple other Running Backs

Monty must be thrilled to have effective blocking from an OL and not continually get hit behind the LOS.
I said it last year and I'll say it again, Montgomery is a hoss. Teams need players like that and it was a mistake to let him go. You can have all kinds of coaches preaching HITS and acting professionally, but a guy like Monty leads by example. Can anyone think of a current Bear that is leading by example? RoJo?? DJ Moore would if he could get the ball. EJax used to, now he seems like a shell of his former self.
San Francisco has always been my favorite booing city. I don't mean the people boo louder or longer, but there is a very special intimacy. Music, that's what it is to me. One time in Kezar Stadium they gave me a standing boo.

Monty's running behind an OL which is one of the league's best. Just saw a little of the game last night, he ran hard, caught passes also. So sad to see the beating the Lions put on the Pack (sarcasm alert).

Well when you're busy running in TDs from 3, 2 and 1 yards that will bring your ypc down a bit. So will being used at the end of games to run down the clock.

His quarter splits are 3.9/3.7/3.5/3.9 so late game isn't wrecking his average.
And if you take out all 4 TD runs (and assume lengths of 3,2,1,1) (which you'd also need to do to his Bears numbers to be comparable), you still only bump up from 3.8 to 3.9

No matter how you dice, the numbers still say "Montgomery did the same or slightly better with the Bears "terrible OL" than he does with the Lions "good OL".

David Montgomery knew it was better to take less money and go to the Lions versus staying with the Bears. He was smarter than us Bears Fans as he had inside knowlege of this Staff.
I seriously hope he has a career year in Deroit and wish him all the best!
A new Era begins in the NFC North!

Sadly, it does not involve the Bears.... :frustrated:

wow, David got ground to a pulp for 4 years behind the bear's OL and now he's not quite as effective at breaking tackles. Glad you're on the case, sherlock!

Also, i'm not even sure what you're arguing about? Spud said he's probably glad to not be constantly shedding tackles in the backfield, which is i am sure, a true statement.

I second ... that really was fun

I'm happy for the Lions ... seems like they have gone above and beyond the old Matt Millen days and have folks in charge who seem to have a bit of an idea on how to build a team

Well, I think it would have helped to know.

The Lions OL got praised.
The Bear OL gets regularly savaged as atrocious by a sizeable contingent here.
And yet, somehow, Montgomery is doing the same as always, maybe slightly worse.

So, either a) he just happened to decline, after only 4 years, right at the moment he switched teams or b) the gulf between the Bears line and the Lions line isn't what a lot of people think it is.

Or maybe the people calling our OL trash were referring to their pass protection? Even said so explicitly? I recall saying something akin to “run blocking is ok but stats are boosted by Fields legs, and pure pass protection were worst in the NFL.

Your average is also only 4 games in, so hardly a fair comp. I’m fact, just one week later he’s 4.2 YPC, 7th in the NFL in rush yards, and 2nd in TDs. Let’s check in at the end of the year for a proper comparison, I think the difference will be significant.

A bump for this one thanks to this:

People often cited a lack of ability to make the big runs as the biggest knock against him yet this is his 6th run of 40+ yards in his career and isn't even his longest. He had an 80-yarder for the Bears back in 2020.

Montgomery's missed 3 games, but is averaging a league high 83.5 rushing yards a game with a 4.7 ypc average and already has 6 TDs. He's surpassed 100 yards in half of the 6 games he's played.

He's not contributing much in the passing game, only 6 receptions for 66 yards, but they have Gibbs for that (31 for 200 yards).

Between the two the Lions have a pretty potent 1 - 2 punch.

It will be interesting to see how the Bears top-ranked run defense (2nd in yards per game, 1st in yards per attempt) fare against them in their two upcoming match ups.

With the ‘real deal’ Lions, David Montgomery ready to face his former team

When the Lions ran onto the turf at Soldier Field a year ago this week, David Montgomery had little reason to respect them. The running back had only lost to them once in his Bears career. He viewed the contests as “stat games,” he told Lions reporters this week, and would, at least figuratively, circle the dates of their games.

“Last year it was a whole different story,” Montgomery said.

The first time they met, in Week 10 last year, the Lions won 31-30.

“I’m like, ‘Maybe it was a fluke,’” he said.

The next time they met, in Week 17, the Lions won 41-10.

“They did it to us again a second time,” Montgomery said. “I’m like, all right, maybe they’re the real deal.

“Then I got over here and I’m like, yeah, it’s the real deal.”

The Bears were surprised in March when Montgomery turned down their offer of a contract extension for similar money from, of all teams, the Lions. Until last year, they’d finished last in the NFC North in each of Montgomery’s seasons.

To lose one of their best-known players outside of Halas Hall and one of their most respected inside of it to the Lions was a bad look for the Bears. It stung even more when, two months after he signed a three-year, $18 million deal, Montgomery said that the Bears’ losing “sucked the fun out of the game for me.”
...

Montgomery averages 83.5 rushing yards per game, the most by any player who’s appeared in more than four games. He’s played in six games because of a ribs injury, but was strong in his return Sunday, totaling 116 yards on 12 carries. He’s the physical component of the Lions’ thunder-and-lightning timeshare; only four players have more runs of 20 yards or more than Jahmyr Gibbs, the running back the Lions drafted No. 12 overall in April.

“He’s aggressive, he’s relentless, he’s a punisher,” Bears safety Eddie Jackson said.
...

There’s no denying the physicality Montgomery brought to the Bears in his four years with the team. Last year, it helped the offense figure out its identity.

“His play style, period, was contagious,” offensive coordinator Luke Getsy said Thursday.

Montgomery still talks to Getsy and his former teammates.

“They’re my guys, but they understand,” Montgomery said. “I understand, too, what it means — what’s getting ready to happen, too.”

Jackson said his understanding was that Montgomery “wanted to be here.” He doesn’t fault him from finding a place where he’s happy..

“He’s balling,” he said.” He’s getting that recognition he deserves.”

Receiver Darnell Mooney hasn’t talked to Montgomery this week — and won’t until after the game — but said he’s happy for him.

“Obviously, he’s seeing a little red this week, for sure, playing us,” he said.

Montgomery knows facing his former team for the first time will be special — but he’s trying to make sure it won’t be different. He said nerves won’t keep him up Saturday night. He’ll fall asleep the same way he always does — at 10:15 p.m., with a movie on the television.

“I’m just going to be me, man,” he said. “I’m not going to try to play out of the lines of myself. I’m going to be me. I think me being who I am is enough. I go out and play the way I play, play the way I know how.”

The Lions can be the poster child for a Bears rebuild. The Lions haven't won the NFC yet but they're certainly getting close and are in the running this year. They built out the OL and DL first. Their QB isn't considered one of the top guys in the league but he's executing well within Ben Johnson's offense. They play tough physical football for a tough guy coach.

Just turned on the game. First half about over. The Lions are Lionsing. My son said they have looked like shit on both sides of the ball. Are they getting full of themselves?

Love looks to be balling by looking at his stats.
