Well we currently sit at 2 behind only Denver. So it looks like after week 4 when they beat us, we'll have the first overall pick!!!!!!
The pick from the Panthers currently sits at 9, but I expect it to move up quickly. They look awful from what I've seen.

Didn't say we looked any better. The first overall pick may very well go to the loser of our game with them. The other team will get the second pick.Ditka’s dictaphone wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 11:53 amSheesh, Panthers being dissed by Bears fans after the last 2 and a half weeksArkansasbear wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 10:26 am Well we currently sit at 2 behind only Denver. Bryce Young is not expected to play Sunday against the Seahawks after suffering an ankle injury during Monday's loss to the Saints. Andy Dalton is set to start in his place. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing for us. Hopefully it's irrelevant because Seattle is the better team anyway.

If that's how it shakes out, take the 2 and trade down to 5 or 7. Keep the 9 and take DL at both spots.Arkansasbear wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 10:26 am Well we currently sit at 2 behind only Denver. So it looks like after week 4 when they beat us, we'll have the first overall pick!!!!!!

ONE, Justin will win some with his legs.
TWO, more importantly Bagent will get his chance and win some as the miracle is real.
THREE, Fields will become a star in a vastly superior Tysom Hill role.

Ahem, it's Taysom Hill. I had thought about a role for Fields similar to that. I doubt he goes for it, and I doubt the Bears could afford first round pick Fields playing in that type of role. The Grizzly One wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 12:06 pm We need to root for Bear wins. Hill played at BYU, but did not start to play for the Saints until he was 27 y.o. He's a good change of pace but not a featured weapon for their offense. And he's good insurance in case they start losing players during a game. He has a different running style than Fields, and I doubt Justin could take the punishment that Hill has gone through.
If Fields becomes some kind of gadget player it will probably be by about the third team he plays for.

I agree about Fields not accepting that here. But one can hope as I do think him being a number one QB is highly unlikely. But yes, we can still hope.spudbear wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 2:03 pmAhem, it's Taysom Hill. I had thought about a role for Fields similar to that. Hill 6-2 221
Fields 6-3 227
Fields is bigger, stronger, faster, and by far a better athlete than Hill. Yea he could do that and would indeed be a special weapon..
Please, not a knock on Hill. I like Him. Justin ranked among the NFL's best Athletes by many. Hey 6-9 million a year ain't bad if he washes out as a starting level QB.

That’s the thing, right? Which team losing gives us the higher draft pick?

The pass-rusher class is actually pretty deep. I’ve been a Braxton Jones guy for a while, but I think Olu Fashanu should be priority with our first pick. Back to back years getting the best tackle in the draft would be sweet.

For exhibit A I give you Tim Tebow. Had he acknowledged earlier he couldn’t be an NFL QB, he could have stayed in the league a lot longer. By the time he attempted to do that it was too late. And Fields is VASTLY superior to him in every trait. The Grizzly One wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 2:17 pmI agree about Fields not accepting that here. Texans won, Cardinals winning, Panthers losing. Aaaaand the Bears are working on the superfecta.

Updated after week 3:
1. Chicago Bears (0-3)
2. Denver Broncos (0-3)
3. Minnesota Vikings (0-3)
4. Chicago Bears (via Carolina Panthers (0-3))
5. Cincinnati Bengals (0-2)
6. Los Angeles Chargers (1-2)
7. Las Vegas Raiders (1-2)
8. Arizona Cardinals (via Houston Texans (1-2))
9. Tennessee Titans (1-2)
10. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2)
Bears play Denver in week 4, hard to imagine a game between 2 such sad teams has significance this early in the season. At least the Bears aren't on the hook for $150 to $200M or so for an aging QB's contract. Arizona and Houston both won in Week 3. C.J. Stroud threw for 280 yards, following up a 300 yard game in Week 2.

Looks like we are now 1 and 2.
My hope now is Fields plays like he did the first three quarters yesterday and we make the playoffs and finish with 1 (from the Panthers) and 16ish or 32nd, but realistically 16is is as far as I see us getting if everything goes right for us). Trade the 1 to move to three or four and land Harrison of the LT from Penn State.
If we can't do that, I still want to see Fields play like he did for three quarters yesterday and have epic losses like yesterday so we finish with 1 and 2. Trade 1 to move to three for someone that wants Williams and then draft both the guys I mentioned above.

So my question is… if the season continues to go as poorly as it has, and the Bears are in line for two top 5 picks…do they consider trading Fields this season before the deadline?
If it’s a forgone conclusion that the staff is out and that a new QB is in play next year (be it a rookie or a vet), why not trade Fields now?

I think the next few weeks will reveal what we need to do. If he can look like he did yesterday against better teams, they may ride with him next year. If yesterday turns out to be one flash in the season, I think they will look to move him. Atlanta maybe.wab wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 11:24 am So my question is… if the season continues to go as poorly as it has, and the Bears are in line for two top 5 picks…do they consider trading Fields this season before the deadline?

As much as I don't want the Bears to have to (hopefully) develop another 1st rd pick QB, I just don't think Fields is the one to lead them to the promised land. Yeah, he had a good game for over a half. When it came to crunch time he messed up - Kmet had the defense read right but Fields did not and ended up throwing the ball to the wrong spot. If Fields has has stretches where he plays well and the team still has epic losses then he ain't the guy.
Bears desperately need a quality pass rusher rather than MH Jr., or even another high pick OT. Teams do not let quality pass rushers go unless they can't afford them. Oh yeah, see where Mack got six sacks yesterday? I'm still hoping for a Bagent emergence and him putting up a few W's, but with the current shape of the OL and a porous D don't know if even he can make a difference. Well, the "C" on the side of the helmet can stand for Caleb if we end up with the top pick.

If Fields plays the rest of the year like yesterday - but you are still losing every game. He probably is worth a mid to late 1st? Maybe someone like the Titans? But you have to be committed to the full-on tank job.wab wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 11:24 am So my question is… if the season continues to go as poorly as it has, and the Bears are in line for two top 5 picks…do they consider trading Fields this season before the deadline?

I'm convinced where ever he goes, he'll be amazing - because that's just how things happen to us. Like Mack having 6 sacks yesterday.

There is some truth in what you said about edge rushers. But thus far, looking into the draft, I'm not completely sold on any of them, especially with a top 3 picks. Harrison, Williams and Fashanu I think are simply unique talents. I don't like Dallas Turner for this defense (although we might not be running a 4-3 next year) as he is simply too small IMO. I like Verse a lot but he's not in the same league as guys that have been drafted super early the past few years, again a lot of that is due to him being a bit small (seems weird saying guys that weigh 240 and 251 are small). After those two you have Trice, Smith and Jenkins. None of whom I think should go in the top 15.spudbear wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 11:37 am As much as I don't want the Bears to have to (hopefully) develop another 1st rd pick QB, I just don't think Fields is the one to lead them to the promised land. Granted if you trade back those guys should be in play for sure.
