I used to really enjoy CM Punk, and to some extent I still do, but it's become very, very clear over the last 10 years that he is an immense pain in the ass to work with, and has an ego that isn't worth tolerating as a coworker no matter how much money and eyes he brings in.
Didn't that dude try to fight for real in the UFC and get the shit beat out of him?

Speaking of which, Brock Lesner was a genuine bad ass. That dude was a top level UFC fighter when he got into that and tried to do it.
Punk tried to go legit, got overpromoted into UFC when he had no business being there. Got his shit rocked because he was virtually untrained compared to his competition. It doesn't matter the background, if you aren't trained and conditioned properly over a long period of time, whether it's the grueling performance of professional wrestling or enduring a MMA contest, you're going to lose handily to any opponent that is.

Punk wasn't, so he got whooped.

As far as Lensar goes, he's the modern equivalent to Bronko Nagurski. Unreasonably huge athlete who excels at virtually anything he sets himself at, a Minnesotan farmer who also happens to be an incredible talent and performer.

I always liked Lesnar. When they first pushed him he couldn't work a mike to save his life, but he's just such an incredible physical specimen.

Another Dick da Bruiser fan here. Until I found out it was all fake around age 11 and never watched again.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Go back to leather helmets, NFL.

Same - I can't wrap my head around adults who watch it. Not hating on them, to each his own, but I just don't get it. Do they still spend half the time screaming into microphones like roid rage soap opera stars?

As an adult who very casually checks in on the wrestling industry, I can 100% tell you that it being "fake" is the last thing on fans minds, young and old, anymore. If you can't tell that wrestling is relatively scripted within an hour of watching, you've got other problems.

It is about story telling, physical theater, and some incredible showmanship. It's not sophisticated and a lot of them can't use a microphone or screen presence to sell a story well, but the ones that DO make for some incredible moments. Plus the "inside baseball" workings of the insanely dramatic backroom of the wrestling biz is a form of entertainment itself. It's the circus.
