No, this is not some kind of announcement, but if there is one for VJJ then this would be as good a place as any to give it.
I had high hopes for VJJ, as I'm a late bloomer myself and thought he could be a playmaker for the Bears. After last night it looks like the bloom will not be opening for him. At least in Chicago. I doubt he would have any trade value, so what should happen to him after Halloween? Put him on the PS? Outright cut him?
Seems like ESB should be ready to go pretty soon. Otherwise you have Nsimba Webster and Collin Johnston on the PS that could take VJJ's place. Webster seems to be a "just in case" returner as his receiving skills are below average. Johnson is a 4th year (6'5") WR out of Texas. He started out in Jacksonville, then played the following year for the Jints. He then was out of the NFL for a year before landing in the talent-rich Chicago WR corps. After seeing that tall Charger receiver burn the Bears I'm ready to see if another tall WR could make a difference.
So what should the Bears do about VJJ and the WR's going forward?

San Francisco has always been my favorite booing city. I don't mean the people boo louder or longer, but there is a very special intimacy. Music, that's what it is to me. One time in Kezar Stadium they gave me a standing boo.

Here's the play. Hate on VJJ all you want, he deserves it, but that ball is a touch late and horribly underthrown. Fields haters would be all over him if he threw that ball.

Thank you for your assistance. Still suffering from lobotomy after-effects.

All good, we already know the guy's a pussy, we don't need to lower ourselves to further emphasize the point.
--------
I remember the tearful phone call with Flus that VJJ had when he got drafted which was pretty cool, and there was a kick return or two that was intriguing.
After that? Guy has not translated to the pro level at all. The end zone flop is inexcusable. Everybody makes mistakes, but in the NFL you only get second chances on other franchises. VJJ needs to sign elsewhere, hone his special teams play on all levels, not just returning, but chances are excellent he's going to float around practice squads for a year or so then fizzle out into the XFL/USFL thing.

I watched a ton of mock draft videos some just Bears, some all teams - never did I see anyone draft VJJ, let alone in the 3rd round.
I bet you could have picked him up as a UDFA.

I guess we all see what we want to see.
Side note…this “Fields haters would say such and such if this had happened if Fields did it…” thing is weird.
We’ve had three years of stuff to say about Fields. It’s not like anything new is going to pop up suddenly.

maybe a bit underthrown but in no way was that uncatchable ... if Jones had simply stopped, the pass would have been right to him ... even with the idiot tripping over his own feet and falling down, the ball hit him right in the chest as he was laying there ... absolutely no excuse for him not catching it for a TD

Yea agree it was catchable, VJJ is getting fairly roasted here - no argument.Boris13c wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 1:24 pmmaybe a bit underthrown but in no way was that uncatchable ... if Jones had simply stopped, the pass would have been right to him ... even with the idiot tripping over his own feet and falling down, the ball hit him right in the chest as he was laying there ... absolutely no excuse for him not catching it for a TD

I wish IE was here because I’m genuinely interested to know if his position on Velus has changed at all.

Probably.
But at this point, I don't find it very interesting, either. Too late.
What I mean is, everybody will tell you now that Mitch doesn't have it.
Expressing doubts pre2019 was wise.
During 2019 was good.
2020 offseason, there were still a fair amount onboard.
But in 2023, you don't get any points for realizing he isn't a starter.
Velus isn't quite at the tail end of the timer, but he's awfully close. Finally recognizing the badness now doesn't win any prizes.

He should have put 2 or 3 more yards on the ball. True. It was also in the opening. I disagree with the Fields comment. While its complete conjecture any time I've said poor throw good result I have rarely been agreed with. The outcome is what people focus on.
So yes bagent could have thrown it better. That one hit VJJ perfect and VJJ shit the bed. 90% VJJs fault.. If Fields had the same outcome I doubt the sentiment would be different.

The kid has already showed she has better hands than Velus. Sign her to the practice squad at least.

I've constantly been called a Fields hater
I have constantly wanted him to throw to the open guy. I never fault him for doing it - he just doesn't do it all that often
But the pendulum for some - it has to be at an extreme

And that montage doesn't include the 15 yard penalty for hitting the punt returner on a fair catch from last night either.
Another one that springs to mind, albeit let egregious as he did have dive, was dropping a deep pass from Fields for a TD last season.
I honestly don't know why he hasn't been cut today.
