At least, for good or ill, Harbaugh would make the Bears interesting for a while...

The Bears have sucked for the better part of 35 years.
What I cannot tolerate is the boredom.
These non-photogenic milquetoast yes men they trot up there and have on the team.
Get some personality. Gimme some swagger.
That's why Cutty was so great.
Harbaugh would be entertaining and I think we'd win more games.

35 years? Been a fan for 60 years and the suckage has dominated. I wouldn't give a darn about a coach's personality if he was a winner. The Marshall Plan wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 4:08 amAnd this is the crux of the matter.HisRoyalSweetness wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 8:19 pm At least, for good or ill, Harbaugh would make the Bears interesting for a while...

Probably true for Flus.ramentaschen wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 5:43 am I feel like the Bears wil win maybe 5 or 6 games this and Flu+Fields will get another year
Depends on how well Fields progresses in the last 7 games.
Going to be tough for Fields.

That’s so crazy that I’m 35 years into this abusive relationship and there are people who are 2X more OG than I am.Grizzled wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 5:39 am35 years? We're just 2X the masochist. You'll be the OG one day and can yell at new posters to get off the grass, regale them with the dark years of the early 2020's, etc. Hopefully, though, you'll be able to go on about the renaissance the team made starting in '24.The Marshall Plan wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 8:22 amThat’s so crazy that I’m 35 years into this abusive relationship and there are people who are 2X more OG than I am.

You older fans have had to live thru more misery, yes, but at least you remember the 85 Bears.
Is it bad that when Hester returned the kick off I turned my phone off and got real quiet and told my girlfriend at the time "The Bears are going to lose this game" then watched the rest of the game waiting for them to fuck it up?

My wife was pregnant at the time. Hester returns the kick we both freaked out. I run over to her and she yelled YOU CANT PICK ME UP I’M PREGNANT!
That night was one of a few where after the game I laid in bed and cried.

Warren didn't get along with Harbaugh when he was Big10 commish. The McCaskeys seem to prefer tapioca-personality coaches. Poles wouldn't like a guy who is probablygoing to insist on a lot of input into players. I'd be surprised if the Bears go after Harbaugh.

I would be surprised too, but the last bombastic personality HC we hired worked out pretty well....some dude from the 80s IIRCGrizzled wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 10:48 am Warren didn't get along with Harbaugh when he was Big10 commish. The Bears ran off the GM who basically built the SB team (Finks) and fought constantly with that successful HC. Since then, it's been their type of coaches, of which Flus is the latest. Shit, they even passed over a Coach of the Year (Arians) for Trestman because Arians wanted to pick his own staff.dplank wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 10:56 amI would be surprised too, but the last bombastic personality HC we hired worked out pretty well....some dude from the 80s IIRCGrizzled wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 10:48 am Warren didn't get along with Harbaugh when he was Big10 commish. Things can only sustainably improve once the McCaskeys sell the team.Grizzled wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 11:01 amThe Bears ran off the GM who basically built the SB team (Finks) and fought constantly with that successful HC. We can debate whether or not Ditka was a good HC. A lot of guys would've won with Finks' roster. McMahon's injuries cloud up whether or not they could've won multiple Super Bowls with Ditka however I think the 1986 season would've been simple because the '86 defense was actually better than the '85.
It would've been interesting to see what a comparable 80's HC like Gibbs or Parcells would've done with the 1984 through 1987 or so years.
However at least with Ditka we had somebody with fire in the belly that wasn't afraid to call things how he saw them. If anything Ditka was honest about things with the way he saw them. He didn't mince words.
Ditka could lip off at will because he was Iron Mike Ditka. He had roots with the franchise and with George Halas.
I think this drove the McCaskeys insane and they never wanted to repeat that experience again.
So for the past 30+ years we've gotten a steady string of coordinators just thankful to get their first HC job and therefore in no position to rock the boat. John Fox being the lone exception to that, but John Fox was Ernie Accorsi's decision and that stamp of approval gave the McCaskeys confidence in the hire.
It is clear that the McCaskeys know virtually nothing about winning football. The real problem is that they refuse to bring in a strong man to run the team and just let the family collect paychecks and have feedback about less important things.
Now hopefully Warren is that guy, but my opinion is that his main job duty is getting the new stadium and Arlington Heights done right.

So, this whole time I thought that Eberflus was the guy Bill Polian wanted for us and that was why we hired him, but I did some research, and I was way off. Apparently Polian wanted his buddy Jim Caldwell and our higher-ups wanted Dan Quinn. But I guess Quinn wanted the Denver job, but they went with Hackett, so Poles thought Quinn would think of this job as a ‘silver medal’ of sorts? And since the call was ultimately Poles’ alone, HE wanted Flus, so he hired Flus.
I’m starting to think taking some power from Poles wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

I think Harbaugh is going to see a young, talented roster here and a team that is going to have a run in them soon - and he can jump in and look like he's a great HC by getting in at the right moment of our ascension. This team is close.
