Once again we start thinking the Bears may be something, and once again it's el foldo at the end. Like many others said, the Bears played not to lose. For over three quarters they were making a statement on being a good team, but found a way to give it away. Kinda like against the Broncos. Tough to give out "awards" after this but duty calls.
GAME BALLS
Stevenson - He had a gift INT, but that forced fumble was a game changer. Bears should have scored a TD after that TO but no go.
Fields - Had a good game after being out. We'd rather see more passing yards and less running yards from him but he played his guts out.
Moore - Playmaker. Wish they could get him the ball moore.
Santos - He's a machine. Would rather see him kicking PAT's than FG's.
HORNS
Coaches - Eberflus impotent against the Lions in the last drives for each half. Getsy screwed the pooch when the Bears had the ball with a 26-21 lead and called two straight runs up the gut for nothing, and then a gasp deep pass that didn't quite connect.
Davis - Too many matador blocks, not effective run blocking.
[I'm not going to give a horn to Feeney, since if he was the backup center than they NEED to give him practice reps knowing what to do in a loud stadium.]
An extra day off to prepare for MNF against MIN. They'll need the extra day to figure out how to finish games for a W. Eberflus could use the time to update his resume.

San Francisco has always been my favorite booing city. I don't mean the people boo louder or longer, but there is a very special intimacy. Music, that's what it is to me. One time in Kezar Stadium they gave me a standing boo.

Balls -
Fields played great. Sure he took a bad sack at the end, and that was all on him, but he was put in a position he never should have been put in.
Pass protection was really good all game.
Stevenson had a nice game. So did the linebackers until the last 5 minutes.
DJ Moore is a stud. Kmet is a valuable weapon.
Nice to see Sweat get a sack.
Dexter keeps progressing every week.
Santos is money.
Horns:
Matt Eberflus is the worst head coach in Chicago Bears history.

Game Balls: Fields, Moore, Stevenson (love him)
Horns: Jaylon Johnson, Edmunds (IMO, his missed tackle with 3:30 to go was ultimately why we lost), Flus (3 TD's in the 2 minute drill for Lions is inexcusable), Herbert (just not a fan), Scott (my god, a VJJ level performance), Getsy has no balls

Not in the mood to give props today even though some players deserve them.
Horns to this staff all day long, 24-7. Embarrassing, futile, gutless (to use someone else’s word) are just a few words to describe the train wreck.
I will throw JJ a horn as well. Dropped INT, pass interference call, where he left his jock on the field, keep screaming, “Where’s the $$.”

Game Balls
- JF1 with a great performance. The last play was a tough one but he was caught in the crushing black hole of mediocrity that is Matt Eberflus at that point, so I’ll cut him some slack.
- DJ Moore is really really good and a lot of fun to watch, did it all today
- Jenkins flipped over to left guard and put together a great game
- Kmet looked good again and is quietly looking like an upper echelon TE
- The D took the ball away a ton. While it’s tough to go nuts for them when Goff was just bizarrely throwing them the ball at times, they took (nearly) full advantage
- Santos is automatic, I feel no stress when he’s lining up for a FG or PAT
- Montez Sweat went up against a great offensive line and showed why I should never have doubted him when the trade went down
Horns
- The coaching staff with one of the most feckless displays of cowardice I can remember seeing in a *long* time
- Me for ever supporting said coaching staff
- Ryan Poles for hiring said coaching staff

I thought most of the team deserved them to be honest. They played tough and deserved to win that game. It's a shame the leadership failed the team. If that's the QB Fields can be these last 6 games I give him a shot next year.
Horns
Jaylon Johnson - you want to get paid like a top 5 corner you don't take that PI call or drop that pick 6.
Eberflus - I've seen enough. I was attempting to give him these last 7 but this game was the story of who he is as a coach. This game is 100% on him. He makes this team worse than the sum of its parts.

Outstanding game by Stevenson and not just the interception, which was too easy. The rest of his game was very good as well. He made 4 tackles with 3 solos, including a 1-on-1 tackle that made me go wow. And a forced fumble. And generally good coverage all game. And no penalties.
Even without the interception, it was his best game.

Poles and Flus talked about what Fields needed to do to prove he’s the guy….Then they took the ball out of his hands.
This was a statement game for Fields IMO…he carried this team in spite of the coaching staff taking the ball out of his hands. The conservative play calling on both sides of the ball…the running on 3rd and long, the failure to pick up one F’n yard…the coaches lost this game.
Flus seems like a nice guy…but him and Poles have created a culture of losing that needs to be halted.
Get Fields a real HC, build an offense around him, take advantage or the draft capital and salary cap…

Balls - Fields played well enough for a win. Kmet for being that TE we thought he could be. Jenkins for just being a beast. Stevenson for ball hawking and good play. Moore for trying that extra bit to get that first down, Beast Mode.
Horns - Eberflus, for taking his foot off the gas ala Lovie Smith. Getsy, for shitting his pants in the fourth quarter, Edmunds for taking money and not tackling when he does manage to play a game. Jaylon Johnson for getting his "Show me the Money chant " ready before he even caught the ball. Scott for fumbling and for not running full out on the last long pass. He let off a bit and that was the difference between a catch and a miss. A half a step changes the outcome of this game.

I mean...this is it right here. "Justin still needs to prove himself." Game on the line, need to have the offense make plays, and you call a bunch of BS running plays and take the ball out of the hands of your playmaker. Whether that's Getsy, or Flus dictating strategy. Doesn't matter. It's a losing mentality.cblaz11 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 8:12 am Poles and Flus talked about what Fields needed to do to prove he’s the guy….Then they took the ball out of his hands.

I don't want to defend Getsy too much...but his bouts of conservative play calling are directly influenced by his conservative boss. Eberflus is NEVER going to put his foot on the throat of an opponet and give his OC license to put it in the endzone when he can happily run it three times, take a handful of seconds off the clock, kick a field goal, and put it in the hands of his defense.Shadow wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 11:45 am Balls - Fields played well enough for a win. The Lions touchdown drives reminded me of how Rodgers used to carve up Lovie's vaunted cover two . This infinitely bendable defense doesn't need to break, you can just bow it right on into the endzone.

No he didn't. He had one interception, which came when Dexter got a big paw up to deflect the ball at the line of scrimmage even whilst being held. Outside of that his biggest contribution was missing that open field tackle late on which would have kept the clock running and put the Lions in a tough spot.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 12:21 pmHe had two interceptions yesterday. Sanborn didn't have a good game back at SLB either. He's much better playing the Mike, but with Edmunds being paid big money he's locked in there. $17m a year is a waste for an off-the-ball line backer as it is and when he's not better than the cheap UDFA you already have on the roster let alone markedly better it's a huge blunder.

Edmunds, thus far, looks like a questionable signing. Sanborn has looked better quite honestly.

Poles got the harder Roquan decision right, and then was proven right on it with Sanborns play finishing the season. Then for some unexplainable reason he went and spent big money on Edmunds. I just don't get it.

Yep. I still give Poles high grades overall, but this move and the Claypool trade are black marks on his resume for sure.HurricaneBear wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 8:28 pmPoles got the harder Roquan decision right, and then was proven right on it with Sanborns play finishing the season. I really like his drafts right now though: Wright, Gordon, Brisker, Dexter, Stevenson, B. Jones, Roschon all look like very good players. Far outweigh his misses.
