Looking forward to the practices and have several prospects on the list.

Center is certainly a huge need for our Bears and we will get another chance to see top prospects at the position.

Zach Frazier, C, West Virginia
Charles Turner III, C, LSU
Andrew Raym, C, Oklahoma
Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, C, Georgia
Kingsley Eguakun, C, Florida
Jackson Powers-Johnson, C, Oregon

Among the Senior Bowl center, I think Frazier is a stud, and he's my top ranked guy at C (in no small part because we haven't see Graham Barton play there since 2020), and both he and Powers-Johnson have games started at G in college. Van Pran is at #3 because he doesn't have that experience, but while I have some concerns regarding Van Pran's overall athleticism, a three-year starter on a two-time national champion from the SEC is a pretty solid resume.

I have a much more narrow view on the Center position but understand your perspective. I would rather have SVP "because" he has only played at C. Frazier, Barton and Powers-Johnson all rank lower for me because they are really Guards who have played at Center... Looking forward to the week of practices to see how everyone measures up in the drills.

I concur with that view on Powers-Johnson. His first season playing C was 2023.

I can't agree on Frazier, though. He played G as a freshman in 2020, then took over at C in 2021 and started 37 consecutive games there.

SVP isn’t your top center because he’s ONLY played center? That’s ass backward, IMO.

I noted he is more recently listed as the #1 center on NFL Draft Buzz.
https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/positions/C/1/2024

He also impressed many with his play at Center this year.
Powers-Johnson won the Rimington Trophy, which is given to the best center in college football.
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/jack ... ting-2024/

His first two seasons it seemed they were not really sure where to put him.

During his freshman and sophomore seasons, Powers-Johnson started for the Ducks at multiple positions, including center, both guard positions, and right tackle.

Van Pran is behind Frazier in my mind, and has been all year.

For me, SVP is also behind Powers-Johnson among Senior Bowl guys who play C because Van Pran has only played C.

That's because I expect the Bears to sign a C in free agency and the pick you'd have to spend on any off the top handful of guys is a pick that should be playing, not sitting on the bench.

There is much to like about Frazier but on the technical side of playing Center SVP is so far ahead of him it is not even close.

If he holds like he does in this highlight video, he will be on the bench as a rookie. Love that fact that he won multiple state championships as a wrestler, but throwing dudes on the mat versus the football field is much different when you are an NFL OL... He will be penalized early and often if he plays like this. He should have been a DT.

We'll agree to disagree on Frazier vs. Van Pran. I think the latter is overrated and the former underrated.

Time will tell.

Senior Bowl prospects I'm most eager to see:
  • Malachi Corley — want to see how he looks running NFL routes and how he takes to coaching.
  • Ben Sinnott — Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy has said they expect Sinnott to line up at both TE and FB, moving him all over. Yes please.
  • Darius Robinson & Keith Randolph Jr — I think both can play 3T effectively, hopefully we get to see some of it.
  • Quinyon Mitchell — I like several of the CBs, but he's the one I want to see most. How does he look outside of the MAC?
  • Beau Brade — What can i say, I'm a sucker for Terp safeties. LOL
I think the Zach Frazier/Jackson Powers-Johnson/Sedrick Van Pran/Charles Turner III/Andrew Raym/Kingsley Eguakun horse race is fascinating. Barring something we don't know about, I think all six wind up drafted.

Worth mentioning: I have read in several places that WRs Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint and especially Jordan Whittington are favorites among NFL scouts much more so than people anticipate. Both have special teams experience covering kicks, and Whittington's rep as a guy who does the dirty work every down is enhanced as an Academic All-Big 12 first teamer twice and second teamer once, as well as on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll five years running.

I appreciate you thunderspirit... Much respect. Folks like you are the reason this is by far the best Bears message board. We can debate, banter, agree to disagree and it is all good. I would not be overly disappointed if we did ultimately draft Frazier btw... Most of all, I just really hope we draft or sign a FA at Center as I think it is the #1 roster spot in need of an upgrade. :toast:

If you think OC is the #1 roster spot for an upgrade you should be hoping for a free agent, not a draft pick. Very few rookies can come in and be the leader of the offensive line. You are either rolling with an early round draft pick backed up by Lucas Patrick. Or you are looking at a top notch free agent backed up by a late round draft pick (my choice).

Jim Dray, the Bears' TE coach (alrhough I don't know his new status) will coach OL for the National team. Assistant Defensive Line Coach Jim Hinds has been named to coach the DL for the American team, giving the team a good perspective on draftees. One name just coming to my attention was Tanor Bartoloni, C, Wisconsin. He's getting nice write-ups.

Bears assistant coach Kenneth Norton III has been named to coach DBs for the American team. Another pair of eyes looking at a position (S) the Bears will have to consider, especially if they release Ejax.

In a move which works out well for the Bears, the new QBs coach, while still with Seattle, was assigned to work with QBs on the American team. So now the Bears will get the benefits of this.
