Seems like defensive coaches are still in pretty high demand. The only two dudes hired so far are defensive guys.

It would be interesting to see the comparison in success rate between former OC's/DC's as HC. Bellicheck may skew the results

Ben Johnson seems to be the hottest candidate for now. If he does leave Detroit, will the Lions offense take a step back next season? They do have plenty of weapons at the skill positions, yet it does come down to Goff.
San Francisco has always been my favorite booing city. I don't mean the people boo louder or longer, but there is a very special intimacy. Music, that's what it is to me. One time in Kezar Stadium they gave me a standing boo.

Yeah, my predictions are:
Panthers - Ben Johnson
Falcons - Belichick...maybe. Aaron Glenn is a close #2 though I think.
Chargers - Harbaugh
Commanders - Dan Quinn
Titans - Bobby Slowik
Seahawks - Vrabel

I imagine this is a result of Zoom making it much easier to conduct an interview (unless these are all in-person - in that case, no idea).

I think you are right ... Zoom interviews may not be perfect but they're certainly good enough for the first rounds of interviewing ... then once you have your final 3 candidates you can be more personal with live visits

The Titans have hired Cincy OC Brian Callahan. Reportedly Jim Harbaugh is close to being offered the Chargers job, which he wanted last year.

He wants to go back to Cali.
His wife wants to go back to Cali.
The only job he was going to leave Michigan for is one in Cali.
The only job open there is the Chargers.

It wasn't hard to connect the dots.

I have to believe the only reason he interviewed in Atlanta at all was to generate some sort of competition. Atlanta can be nice, but it's not California.

Well, we'll never know if he really wanted to coach the Bears.

The Eagles fired OC Brian Johnson. Lots of competition out for OCs, nice that the Bears have filled the position.

Harbaugh just accepted the HC job of the Chargers.

I never believed he was a legit option for the Bears. There is no way Poles or Warren were going to deal with him and his inevitable shenanigans.

He is not a cultural fit for what they’re trying to build.

I'm not convinced they wouldn't consider him, but I'm very convinced he wouldn't consider the Bears, because that team didn't fit what he wanted in his next NFL job.

Well, unless they moved to California.

I'm super happy to see Jim Harbaugh back in the NFL and the AFCW has a perfect array of teams to root against. Just a great outcome IMHO.
No matter how you try to box him in, whatever realistic scenario you propose to build around him is going to include the fashion aspect(s) of Caleb's dramatic personality.

Panthers, Seahawks, and Commanders must be after guys still in the playoffs. Sounds like the Panthers and Commanders are fighting over Ben Johnson.

I'm not convinced that Atlanta hires Belichick, but who knows.

The Panthers just hired Dave Canales, OC, Tampa Bay. This will be the Panthers' 6th head coach since Tepper's purchase of the team in 2018.

The Falcons have hired Raheem Morris, Rams DC. Belichick interviewed twice for the job and now will most likely not get a HC job with only 2 teams still looking. The Falcons also passed Mike Vrabel, who had success as a HC at Tennessee. It is thought that existing Falcons football execs felt threatened by Belichick and so the team passed on hiring perhaps the best pro football coach of all time.

What a wild ride for Morris. He was the Falcons interim HC in 2020 after Dan Quinn was fired like a month into the season.

Has it ever happened before where a coach was named head coach (interim or otherwise), fired/not re-hired and then hired to coach the team again later?

With the Falcons not hiring Belichick, it sounds like he won't get a chance to coach a new team this year. I've heard some rumblings about Reid retiring from KC - what's their plan if he does retire? I'd imagine Reid has someone lined up to take over (Nagy? :D), but is that a potential landing spot for Belichick? Great defense and HOF QB - seems like something he's seen some success with before.

I think if the Chiefs win, Reid could definitely retire. It would not surprise me at all if Nagy were to be his successor.

Is the GCOAT done? I'd put Halas as the greatest coach but he's more than that.
What will be Belicheck's legacy if he does step down? I get the impression that the NFL has gone past him and he's overrated on his coaching skills for the offensive side. You can blame a run of bad QB's since GOAT Brady, but Bellicheck teams have performed poorly, to the point of being outcoached by lesser talented teams.

I think he'll end up in the studio, write some books and go on a speaking tour. Long hours as HC has to take its toll, and he compounded it by being GM too.
I can see Andy Reid saying enough as well, particularly if the Chiefs win it all again this year. He'd be a good addition for an NFL show. At the very least they could have a tray of nuggies out and he could start reaching for them. His spot on the show would be "Andy's Nuggies" where he would give nuggets of football wisdom.

Would be a great sponsorship tie-in with McDonald's or whoever if they could have him eating nuggets at the same time!

Read a lot of articles on how highly the Falcons regarded Morris. They just didn't want to have power struggles between Belichick, Mckay, and Pace. An article I read today said they'll be in the market for a vet QB via trade ....

IF Poles decides to move on from Fields, I wouldn’t at ALL be surprised to see him dealt to the Falcons.

Especially given the Pace connection but even besides that, JF1 in the ATL just “feels” right. He would own that town.

EDIT: I didn’t realize he’s FROM there. He actually grew up a Falcons fan.

anyone else a little shocked the 2024 regular season could very well begin without Belichick on someone's sideline?
