This seems like a good move to indicate they're probably going to make VJJ prove out or get out. Not sure what it means for Tyler Scott.

I actually expected them to bring him back last season, after he got healthy again.
But, once they didn't, I figured they were done.

Pettis is a reliable PR (note, not an exciting one, but more than you can say for VJJ or Tyler Scott), an adequate downfield blocker, and a 5th WR on a good team because he knows how tto be a professional.

The Bears can do (and have done) much worse.

Agreed 100%. He's an upgrade as far as all of that goes. Tyler Scott may eventually be salvageable but I think Jones is gone after preseason. He was a shot at a gadget type guy who could fill a backup WR role and maybe grow to be more but he's not done it. Pettis not a lock to make the team but he's better than Jones or Scott right now as a #4 or #5 WR.
