The Eagles are trying hard to move him apparently. He’s 29 and a sack machine. Bears are one of a limited amount of teams that could take on his 21M salary in 2024, which reduces to 14M in 2025 and just 5M in 2026. I don’t know what the Eagles are asking but this would be a master stroke by Poles IMO.

Phew, that’s a bold move if Poles takes it on.
Are we “all in” on this season?
Go for it Poles

It fits Poles M.O., he'd be getting a high caliber player at a below market value price point. Bonus that he's locked in for 3 seasons on a declining contract cost. He's 29, so he will be at his peak for all 3 years, and plays the position we need most IMO. If he did this, we could comfortably trade down from 9 and look at DT/OT later in the 1st where the value aligns better, and of course we could scoop up an extra 2nd or 3rd in the trade down and draft our future C.Ditka’s dictaphone wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 8:05 am Phew, that’s a bold move if Poles takes it on.

To be clear, he is only signed through 2024. His contract in 2025 voids without a new extension in place.dplank wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 7:46 am The Eagles are trying hard to move him apparently. At the same time that 2025 and beyond cap hit stays with Philly, even if he's traded. Cost to new team would be 1 year ~15M (there is a 1M roster bonus i don't know timing of)

Are you sure on the contract? Everything I am reading says that he is in the final year of a 3 year deal that he signed in 2022.dplank wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 7:46 am The Eagles are trying hard to move him apparently. "In total, Reddick is owed $21.8 million in 2024 as part of a three-year, $45 million deal he signed prior to the 2022 season. The All-Pro linebacker is believed to be seeking a pay raise, however, as he enters the final season of that contract."
I mean, I'd take him as a one-year rental considering what else is available. But it would have to be for a pick next year, like maybe a 6th rounder that we just recently received.

Well shit, that kills that idea. I just looked at Spotrac, must have misread it as it looked like he was locked in for 3 years. The Cooler King wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 8:40 amTo be clear, he is only signed through 2024. He doesn't quite meet Poles' standards for a DE, being 6'1" and 240 lbs; Poles likes them bigger. But he's fast, has 58 career sacks, and Poles is supposedly enamored with Dallas Turner for those qualities to balance out Sweat as a power rusher. Send Philly back the 4th from moving down one pick in '23 and let the Carolina gift give yet another great player. His cap number is about $21M for '24. There is a guaranteed option in '25 of about $14M and several void years for the last 2 years.

Could still be a one year rental, but price has to be low. Like 2025 pick swap low, imo.dplank wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 8:52 amWell shit, that kills that idea. He's more LB than DE though. He did play with his hand on the ground more last year because of sheer necessity.

I like that idea. We swap 3rd round picks. That way they get the 32nd pick in the round and we get something higher!!!!!!!! We get a player and better pick by taking on his salary!!!!!!!The Cooler King wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 9:05 amCould still be a one year rental, but price has to be low. Like 2025 pick swap low, imo.

A year from now, this is probably a yes. The team as constructed with a rookie QB, probably not.

Bears send 1-9 to Philly for 1-22, their 2nd, and Reddick. Not proposing this, an idea from a nonconfirmed source. Maybe worth exploring if Philly ate some salary also.

I'm more concerned about the fit than the details of the cost. You hope that the Bears stay healthy enough at EDGE that he can play on passing downs only but it's a risk

It depends on your confidence he can be a 43DE.

Nah. We've got to hope that the defence is get to the playoffs good enough already so an expensive one year rental doesn't work. He either doesn't play that well and it's a waste or he does and he's after a final payday going into likely decline years for an edge rusher. Then potential scheme fit issues. Nope.
"I wouldn't take him for a conditional 7th. His next contract will pay him more than he could possibly contribute.".

This was gonna the first point I was gonna make. He's an OLB not a traditional 4-3 DE and he never been anything but an OLB. He's a sack machine rushing as a OLB not a conventional 4-3 DE. So Poles would be paying roughly $14-$15 mil for a pass rush specialist who'd play limited snaps. We currently have at two of that type of guy on the roster now. Second point is he turns 30 in September.Grizzled wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 8:56 am He doesn't quite meet Poles' standards for a DE, being 6'1" and 240 lbs; Poles likes them bigger. His 2024 cost is $14,250 salary, a $1 mil roster bonus payable by 3/23 which I believe Philly has deferred while trying to trade him, and possibly his $250k workout bonus. So his cost could be as little as $14.25 mil or as much as $15.5 mil depending on who pays those bonuses. IMHO at best he'd be a one year rental and I don't know why Poles would do that if his plan is to bring in a much younger and much cheaper DE/Edge in the draft and develop him as the RDE to Sweat's LDE. Turner or Verse.

Like the moves by Roseman. Sign the younger edge rusher from the Jets for three years, and get a third(maybe second) from the Jets for the older guy on an expiring deal.
