I have never ever ever understood all of the hype around Cousins. Ne-VER!! He’s not a good QB. He’s mediocre. He has flashes of 3-4 game brilliance followed up by complete ineptness, ESPECIALLY in big game situations.

Cousins gets hurt a lot recently also, and that will only get worse as he gets older.

Has he actually? I know the Achilles thing is absolutely major - but it looks like the last time he missed a game was 2019 and even then it was literally 1 game.

He was playing some of his best career Football before the injury too.

The more I think on the Pennix pick - meh, not wanting to pile on the Falcons - There is a good chance they would be able to trade Cousins in 1-2 years and get something decent (*)


(*) No it won't be a Top 10 pick and yes Cousins will have eaten up a good chunk of Cap Room in the 1-2 years

Cousins has a no-trade clause in his contract, so they'd have to find a team Cousins would be on-board with, as well. Might not be too hard, though, if the Falcons absorb the worst of the salary hits. I could definitely see a scenario where a playoff-bound team has their QB go down early-to-mid season wants to make a move for him.

Maybe grant him a clause where you won't trade him to a team below .500 or something, so he knows it's a contender, but blanket no trade - bad idea.

Obviously doctor examination matters enormously, but on my own, Latu bothers me less because he's played 2 years on it, with no issues.
Newton hasn't played since his. He gets toughness points for playing through it, but it also means "could he have fucked it up even worse?".

Well, the Newton thread kind of got buried in the middle of this megathread, but

WashComs 2nd rounder to have foot surgery … Washington figured it had something of a steal in the 2nd round of last month’s when the Commanders were able to nab Illinois DT Johnny Newton with the 36th pick overall after he slipped out of the first round because of a foot injury. Newton ultimately had to have surgery on the foot and as a result was not able to work out for teams until just a couple of weeks before the draft. Now the team has confirmed that Newton will require the same surgery on his other foot with no announced timeline for when he will be able to play again.

It's better than having it on the same foot...or maybe much worse, if there's something in his genetics or play style that disposes him to this type of injury.
