Boy, you could see that coming and I nailed it in the "draft day 2" thread.

Poles was all over him. Thick, quick, long arms, and a very solid individual. He will be a great swing tackle down the road.

Overview

With a rare blend of athletic traits and eye-popping length, it might be a mistake to bet against the high number of boxes Amegadjie checks. His hand usage is a work in progress, and he hasn't learned to consistently get into blocks with proper footwork and body control, but both issues are coachable and likely to be corrected. Provided he improves his punch-timing and placement, his ability to keep rushers at the end of his length could become a big advantage. Amegadjie already possesses impressive explosiveness as a drive blocker and could become a quality NFL starter once his tutelage is complete.

Strengths
  • Outstanding blend of size, athleticism and length.
  • Road-grading power to clear running lanes with leverage and force.
  • Light on his feet with the ability to get to challenging blocks in space.
  • Hands showed noticeable in-season improvement in pass protection.
  • Loose lower half provides foundation for NFL anchor strength.
  • Body control and lateral agility allow for consistent mirroring in pass pro.
  • Arms go on for days and will be some of the longest in the draft.
  • Displays impressive torque-and-turn power in his hips as base blocker.
Weaknesses
  • Acclimation to jump in competition level might take some time.
  • Still needs plenty of work with hand placement and punch timing.
  • Hasn't learned to reset hands and make the most of his length.
  • Average instincts in recognition of twists.
  • Lacking consistent footwork to square into initial contact with efficiency.
  • Feel for positioning and angles as a run blocker need work.

He reminds me of a more athletic Roger Saffold, or Kelechi Osemele

Fine pick to me, a good developmental player who has the athleticism to be OK if pressed into service due to injury. When do any of you remember our Oline having this much depth before as it does after this FA and pick?

Guard /OT backup to start. Love it

Not surprised.

Pundits have been speculating on him as a Bears pick for weeks.

Some quoted excerpts from Bob McGinn's annual anony-scout quotes.
“He was starting to come around and then he had the injury,” one scout said. “So you didn’t get to see the finished product. He’s a developmental guy. He’s at least a half a season away. I’m not going to say a year away because by December these guys that come in the league are on the field because of the injuries. You’d like to think he would have dominated more than he did. He played well those four games before he got hurt (but) it wasn’t like he was just dominating the Ivy League.”
“He was one of my favorite players,” said a second scout. “Kind of like a sleeper going into the year and then he got hurt. He’s still not 100% but he had a good workout. He’s athletic, he’s long. Even with the injury, after the top 50 picks or so, there just aren’t very many talented tackles hanging around. He'll stick out in the third round.”
“His upside is tremendous,” a third scout said. “Great kid, smart. He could probably play every position on the line with the exception of center.”

He's got really long arms, so I don't think C is in this future. But I love the smart lineman. He's the 58th rated prospect, so it seems like the Bears got good value.

Really interested in where they want him. If he stays at tackle, and develops sooner rather than later, maybe we get a late pick for Brax next year.

Makes sense positionally. Backup for a year and then be ready to start.

Man, he really is one of us!

Guys, this is the prototypical Poles pick. Smart, humble, motivated, and value. PFF graded him at an 89.5. His PFF pass blocking grade3 is 94.5. He fell because of his quad injury. Everything I've read said that this is a steal at #75. In his first year he will be the back-up to injury prone Jenkins, and questionably motivated Davis. My guess is that by 2025 he will be the starting LT for the Bears. He has ridiculously long 36" arms. Poles strikes again. Love it!!

I wanted oline or a TE, so I'm very happy with this pick. Being a Bears fan just makes me like him even more.

I mean. He might as well have been in the discord room with those comments...

Maybe he was??

Dude is gonna grab the LT position in 2025 and never let go of it.

Looks like a solid pick. Will most likely be a guard, but so what?

Exactly the sort of player we needed to add.

Exactly what I thought. When we have an OL coach like CMo this is the kind of kid you take a shot with because the basic "package" is so good. No one should be unhappy with this pick. He was great value at #75.

Couldn't agree more, but posting because OMG DUDE, YOUR MAN CRUSH KAMARA IS STILL OUT THERE!!! I wonder if it's gonna happen tomorrow?

How weird would that be? :)

a cm short of 6'6", he has 36-fucking-inch arms. Used to play basketball. He's a T. He gave up ZERO sacks as a left tackle for Yale. This dude has project NFL LT project written all over him.

Yeah but we're pretty far down in round four with our pick. I also question whether or not Poles and Flus see the same value in him I do. In the old days he's the kind of violent throwback player Bears coaches would love but he doesn't fit the physical profile of players this team likes. Wherever he goes I think he'll stick and end up doing some damage. Pitt tends to like players like him.
