LAKE FOREST, IL — BEARS guard Nate Davis is upset.

"I've still got to process all this, man" the 6'3" 300-plus pound NFLer told a room full of reporters at Halas Hall on Monday afternoon. "Me and Ned was close; I felt like he and I were kindred spirits, and after all that, Joffrey goes and has him killed? C'mon, now!" Davis, resplendent in Game of Thrones and house Stark regalia, passionately opined that upon concluding the 1996 George R.R. Martin fantasy novel this past spring he felt a sense of betrayal so powerful that it indeed has diminished his zeal for the game of football.

Through tears, Davis referred multiple times to his connection to Eddard "Ned" Stark, patriarch of the fictional Stark family of Westeros, one of the primary protagonists of Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire" book series, which was adapted into an extremely popular HBO series that ran from 2011-2019. Unfortunately for Davis and other 'Thrones' fans, Stark is famously executed in a dramatic conclusion to the debut novel of the series.

"He's at the Sept of Baelor, confessing to crimes he did NOT commit," said Davis, "and Joffrey, that punk-a** b****, had him beheaded! In front of Sansa and Arya!" At this, Davis pounded the podium emotionally, his weathered paperback clenched in his enormous fist. Davis was evasive when asked about his participation in Bears training camp. "...Ned....they got Ned....how could anyone go back to work after a loss like this, man?"

Davis stated he did start on the second book of the series recently. "There better not be any more of the Stark family that has to die in these books; my heart can't take it."

After several more questions regarding Davis' contractual obligation to the Bears' offensive line room, the 27-year-old Maine native simply shook his head in disgust and wouldn't meet any reporter's eyes. Davis mumbled, "winter is coming," before slowly exiting the conference hall.

Bears training camp begins in late July, and will be the first Bears team ever to be on HBO's "Hard Knocks" series. Davis' agent informed BFO in the late hours prior to publication that he has specifically ordered his client not to subscribe to HBO or its MAX streaming service. Representative Jared Fox of Sportstars Inc. stated, "NFL general managers need to know that I will do all in my power to prevent Nate from finishing A Clash of Kings. Please do not spoil season 3, as it will likely drive my client into early retirement."

Send him directly to GB, if at all possible.
There is a GM named Poles
Who has a clear set of goals
He’s rebuilt his team
So Bears’ fans can dream
Of winning some more Super Bowls

Old-school BFOers will recall a few articles I did in the past about Kyle Orton and others.

Are those available for the new guys? I loved what you did with Davis. Wish I had some creativity like that.

I don't know! Probably? It may be buried on the forum from way way back.
