I've been seeing lots of "Chicago favorite to land <Guy Who Makes Absolutely No Sense For The Bears>" articles.

And they aren't "made up clickbait" - they're all going off actual gambling lines.

There's just a lot of stupid bettors expecting everyone to go to Chicago, somehow

I’d love to bet against these, there’s just no way. Is that a thing or is the only bet to place is “for” it happening?

Yeah, why would Poles want to spend money on a 33 year old CB when he's spent R2 picks the last 2 seasons on CB, landed another promising one in R6 and just signed Johnson to a big-money extension?

I've also seen the Bears linked to David Bakhtiari, a soon-to-be 33 year old LT who's played 13 games in the past 3 seasons, with "betting odds" quoted as the reason when Poles has to determine if Jones is the future and has just drafted Amegadjie in R3.

It's really quite bizarre.

Jaylon Johnson
Tyrique Stevenson
Kyler Gordon
Terell Smith

All are young, quality players. There's no need to bring in a 33 year old to chew up playing time/reps from the pups.

It's July and sports writers need to eat.

No football, basketball or hockey. Only baseball is going on right now.

Sports writing is now a commodity product where any Dude Bro can get on YouTube, make a headline like BEARS RUMORED TO TRADE FOR MAHOMES, EPIC!, and have a 10 minute video about anything.

Some absolutely nonsensical predictions being made. Do any of these people even look at the current roster before they do it? If there's one unit that has both young talent and depth it's in the secondary. Whose place would Gilmore take? It's pretty dumb.

It's like that kid with his podcast on Bahktiari. At best he's a shell of what he once was and he would not supplant Jones at LT or Wright at RT. His best bet if there was one at all would be to sign for a vet minimum and latch on as a depth piece as a swing OT.

You left off DE, but he can't play there either.

I would have hoped the Bears were past that stage of being in the "sign him" phase. Most of the conversation, though, seems to be starting on 3rd party Bears web sites, not by fans (maybe save and excepting Chet). No need to spend $$$ on a vet CB like Gilmore, money would be better spent on a DE or may be another DT.
