OK so apparently I got banned for something(?) and I have a guess as to what even though the guy I was arguing with has had two different signatures that effectively trolled me for who knows how long and I never complained about it.

Anyway….

This is an important thing to know about when you’re banned and a great reason to “behave” in the first place….

I have Rich on Ignore. The problem though is that when I was banned I couldn’t log in. When I couldn’t log in the Ignore feature doesn’t work.

When I lurked here I had to scroll through his ad hominem musings and it was brutal.

If I had been told that up front I would’ve tighten the screws on myself and stuck to just saying how wonderful I think everything is.

In my time in the wilderness I have done the following:

1) I still believe that Eberflus should be fired.
2) We need to acquire a young pass rusher via trade.

Being as transparent as I can:

I mentioned it in another thread; if or when he feels the need to respond to Bears-related posts of mine (or others) with shit-talking, I'm going to call him out on it. That won't change so hopefully he'll get better. If not, well that's your call as the owner/moderator.

I'm a man and can admit I need to get better as well, and I will. I mean it's a Chicago Bears message board after all, like you said. We're here to talk ball, discuss different opinions on players, etc. For the record: I did not create this "Fields vs. Williams" nonsense and reference it every chance I get. I did certainly respond to the antagonism though after attempts at having a civil discussion were met with more buffoonery. (recall other posters discussing how I brought "receipts").

I don't report messages or whine to mods about people being mean because that's not how I roll. Clearly, other people do roll that way, as evidenced by what I had written about my sig being removed. To each his own I suppose; I can certainly see how that is annoying and tiresome as an owner/moderator and feel bad for any role I played in it.

Anyway, I am hoping everyone's behavior -- myself included -- improves or as the owner/moderator of this board you permanently ban who you need to ban. If you keep getting complaints regarding the same person over-and-over-and-over from different people, well, that should tell you something.

Listen we don't say it enough, but thanks to the mods for all they do. I wouldn't want that freaking job. IMO, I think you do a great job. I appreciate you show some grace and maybe let things go a bit further than some would like. But typically by doing that I think the "bad actors" get out what they need to on THAT topic and move on. Now granted it pops up somewhere else. I don't really keep track of who started what or who said what. I come here to get information about the Bears. I read most posts without even looking at who posted it. When it turns into the mindless back and forth I start looking at who is posting and try to skip over the crap.

All I do all day is listen to people lie, say crap and bitch and moan trying to turn ant hills into mountains. So I've got a good filter to get through all that.

I don't see an need to increase bans or let it become the wild wild west. Keep it as is should work, but if you and Xee think you want to run it differently so be it. The only option I am opposed to is the nuclear one - shutting it down. But if it happens I get it. No good deed ever goes unpunished. Running this place for free is your good deed and having to moderate the people is your punishment.

Perhaps we could try some sort of alternative sanctions. When the twins where young my wife was working as a criminal investigator handling sex crimes. They would go after each other none stop some times. So one day I walked out to my wife's police car, grabbed the handcuffs off the gear shifter and handcuffed the twins together and told them once they figured out how not to be holy terrors I'd unhook them. After about 5 minutes it stopped and never happened again.

Perhaps should could ban the offenders and keep the ban in place until they watched a Bears game together while handcuffed.

2. I constantly look for what qualifies Rich as an antognist and I just don't see it. Nobody reports anything. Those who do don't provide me with any sort of argument and I'd love for @RichH55 to get in his two cents here. Same with @dplank . Let's all have a roundtable here.

I never complained that you(?) banned me. I made this thread people who know me probably saw this as humorous. You could also tell from other posts since then I’m taking a lighthearted approach to the banning. I’m not flopping like G08 playing the perpetual victim.

I personally like the contributions all you guys make - I'll throw in Rich and dplank as well. I think you all drop good insight and opinions. For whatever reasons everyone seems to want to defend their position over and over and over again and then it breaks down into drivel.

Don't get me wrong, at times I will double down and triple down on things when I shouldn't. It does seem I do that most with Rich for some reason. Don't hate Rich over it, he using his "inner attorney" to come after the judge. He'll learn someday the judge is always right (at least until some appeals court says otherwise). (see the emoji is a sign I'm joking around, something that sometimes gets lost in places like these or text). But I know with Rich (and myself to a degree) that arguing and defending what has been said is like meth!!!! LET'S KEEP IT GOING!!!!!!!!!!! So I just make a practice to tell myself we are running in circles he can have the last word and move on.

I will be clear, no one, including Rich, has ever launched a personal attack on me or said things to me I found to be inappropriate. (other that someone said some other poster was the most optimistic one here and that struck a nerve ) Mostly because I simply make sure to end it before it can get that way. Just remind yourself we are all pulling for the same thing - to take over the world. No wait that's my Pinky and Brain chat room, we all want the Bears to take over the world.

I close with this - remember the movie Road House (the original, not the sequel that was okay). "Be nice." If they say your mom is a cocksucker ask yourself "Is she?" Then don't respond. I know you disagree about who the troll is, but if you think you aren't the troll just remember - the troll wants to be fed. If you don't respond to the troll, the troll sulks back into his cave with nothing to do.

Perfect example was Tuesday in court. I guy couldn't see is kids as he was being held in jail rape charges and there was a no contact order in the criminal case. I had the custody case and, against the advice of his attorney, decided he needed to testify and tell me how he was going to sue everyone involved in the matter, have federal charges brought against us and would own everything we had because he was innocent. I know some judges that would have lost their shit over that held him in contempt and "thrown the book at him." But I knew he was just trying to get me blow my cool. So I explained to him that he was free to appeal my ruling, I was happy to provide him the address for the judicial discipline committer to file a complaint if he thought I had done him wrong and would welcome defending a federal suit. Did it all in very calm manner and told him he could have a seat. He walked to his chair with a look of defeat and said something like, I guess I'm not mad at you judge and I expect he won't do anything in any further hearings. Had I let him goat me into blowing my cool and holding him in contempt (and what good is that going to - "Sir I'm giving you 90 days in jail!!!" Him - "Boy judge you sure are tough, I'm being held without bond and don't have hearing until December so I'll be there anyway.") I think it would have gotten worse that day and down the road.

Well....I'll throw my thoughts in here since I was asked. I'll just warn in advance is multi layered and has some nuance to it, but here goes it:

1. Quick disclaimer: When I was suspended, I did not come back and whine about it. In fact, I said I deserved it and didn't hold any grudge about it.

2. I for a short time mod'd the old cbfanforum that many of us migrated from, so I understand that it's a shit job and I believe I have a special level of appreciation for the BS you guys endure for no pay. I only did that at cbfanforum because when the site went down for non-payment, I took it upon myself to find the hosting provider and pay the bill - it's not a role I ever wanted and I'm sure you really don't either.

3. @UOK - I'm honestly not sure how to have a reasonable conversation with you about this if you can't see how Rich is an antagonist. It would be like trying to argue with someone that thinks water isn't wet. As a board administrator, are you able to see how many board members have Rich on block vs anyone else on the board? I'm not asking you share the data, but maybe that will shed a light on it for you. If you like, and I could do this via PM so as not to junk things up any worse, send you in detail his last XX number of posts and explain why I and SEVERAL others see him as a major antagonist/shit stirrer.

4. I do not see why there is an aversion by the moderators to just step in and make a very simple demand when someone is obsessively mocking, snarking, deriding another poster. For example, I thought TMP was going after G08 too much recently and was hitting him across several threads unnecessarily - an easy fix to that would be a simple moderator message that isn't some vague "cut the crap" thing, but a very specific "Do not quote or attack this specific user again, or there will be a suspension" message. Both those guys are my friends so I really hated to see it happening.

5. Bringing that thought back to my nemisis, I've really tried to take the high road with Rich - and I did so for one reason, for the benefit of the board members as a whole who don't want to hear Rich and I argue about stuff ad nauseum. Has Rich ever walked away from an argument and taken the high road? Like, ever? I did, I simply stopped engaging with him to try and create peace on the board for everyone else's benefit. And what was my reward for this? Constantly being quoted, berated, mocked, words being twisted, over and over and over again across every thread. Again, how you don't see this is just remarkable to me, just fucking look man it's right there. I make a post, not addressing him in any way, and he feels absolutely COMPELLED to jump in and find some portion or part of what was said that he can take issue with, or twist around, and throw shade/snark my way. And what do I do about it? Take the high road, I see when people quote him back so I see his comments far more than I want to - and yet I just let it go. So in this particular regard, I believe you are not being a good moderator because you have two members behaving fundamentally differently but you're lumping them together as one.

6. So.....simple easy fix is sitting right there. Why not just tell Rich once and for all - do not quote dplank. This is low stakes right? What's so hard about that. We all know where it leads, and I have Rich on block and you can search all you like going back to the first of the year you're not going to see me instigating ANYTHING with him - it's ALWAYS him instigating. Always. And my question for you UOK is why you don't think that matters here? All we are talking about is decorum, manners and such. No one is getting upset of Bears arguments, people get upset when other people insult them and act like assholes. This is an easy fix, something I've asked for before, you can make one simple move but choose not to even though it's, as you say, super low stakes. Why? Why not just tell Rich, dude stop going after dplank or your gone. How hard is that for you, and how hard is that for Rich? I've done it on my own already - again - for the benefit of the other board members.

7. In this regard, I will argue until I'm out of oxygen that you have a double standard. I cannot engage in an argument with Rich or there's an immediate backlash from the entire board. So I say fine, I won't do that. But he's allowed to shit talk me every day without any consequence? That's just simply not right.

I went after G08 because he pulled a total 180 on Fields on a dime. Then came the condescension, the LARPing and the dishonesty about him watching a shit ton of football games in like two days.

So yeah I don’t like the tone he took and I don’t like that he never owned the flip flopping.

Then him being a Protected Class with the mods, and they even admit as much in this thread right here, puts the cherry on top.

I absolutely did tell him to take down his sig when you reported it. He chose to alter it in the way he did and UOK deleted it completely. You can ask him if you want.
