interesting how "statement game" keeps getting tossed about ... I think every game makes a statement ... and so far, the statements made are the team is in need of much improvement ... not surprising with a rookie QB, but I had bought into the Bears propaganda about building the team around the rookie QB so that he has adequate support, implying the team did their best ... if what we have seen in 3 weeks is what the Bears consider a prepared offense, then 1-15 might be a realistic possibility of end result
though I picked the Rams to win, my hope is the Bears do make this a statement game of things clicking in place so that competence in actions becomes a real and constant element from which to build ... I hope very much to have this prediction wrong, and the Bears put on a display of professionalism, understanding and execution as they ride off to victory
but I'm not holding my breath
1-15 might be the single biggest overreaction I've seen around here in a long time.
a guy named Troy Aikman started his career 1-15 ... took his lumps and learned from them ... his career ended up pretty decent ... but of course it wasn't just him ... the Cowboys were true to their word and built around Aikman and have some nice trophies to show for it
so if a similar beating, and also career path, should befall Caleb, I'd be ok with that ... the fly in that ointment is can the Bears do the required building

I've written him off. If he ever gives us anything, it's a bonus in my book.
I slammed him as a pick and lost my mind for a while.
Poles should be locked in a sound proof bunker and Faraday cage during round 3 of the draft.
Velus
Pickens
Armegadgie
Little quick to be dismissing Kiran -- if he wasn't recovering for an injury, people had him rated as a 2nd round talent. Let him come all the way back and let's see what he can do.
2023 Preseason Downside prediction:
5-6 wins, never really healthy all season, a constant shuffling.
We're potentially in a position to draft in the Top 5 again, depending on the Carolina team, and probably have a low-teens (or better) pick ourselves.

Injury report looking much better than I expected. That's worth 5 points to me, so I'm changing my earlier prediction and calling for a Bears win. I did hear some stats that are compelling.
Bears have won 6 straight at home.
Rams have lost 6 straight in the central time zone.
Bears 24
Rams 20
I will say that I think that Williams' 360 yard passing performance is certainly encouraging, but I'm also sympathetic to the perspective that his YPA was only about 6 and he threw 2 picks, one of which was an eyelash from being a pick 6. So let's not announce his "arrival" just yet. I'm not concerned about Daniels looking better. He's appears to be in a better situation than Caleb with run game and coaching. I see CW16 improving weekly, looking like an NFL QB and being productive after 3 weeks, which was my expectation. I know a lot of people are hanging the strip sack on him. I don't see it that way.
Now if the coaches could only get that cranial-rectal extraction done, that would help. And it sounds like Eberflus is encouraging that.

After improvements to the offense last game (generating yards and avoiding penalties), we will see further improvement. The running game won't be outstanding, but it will provide more support for Caleb. With Allen returning, we will see a good short and mid range passing game through this and Kmet. But Caleb will afford an Int.
The defense won't get better against the run, but it will put pressure on the QB. With an Int and a fumble generated by Dexter, we will win the turnovers.

Yeah that’s what they said about Pickens
It's almost like they're two different players with different circumstances. Crazy, right?

So far I feel like the oddsmakers have been pretty spot on about the Beloved. So I’m going to go that route:
BEARS 24
RAMS 20
Rams’ defense is lacking in many areas. I’d love to be wrong on my score, having the Bears put up 42. But until I can see the OL look like they can win anything I can’t do it. Here’s to hoping Blasingame is healthy and making a few blocks to help this moribund collection of linemen who have somehow in spite of it been tasked with dropping into pass pro 100 times over the last two weeks.
Looking for Caleb to take some steps—forward. Would be great if they could hold his attempts under 38-ish, while getting our RBs involved with 25+ carries. Doesn’t sound like a big ask, but I’ve been watching this team.
Let’s see if having Keenan Allen back makes a difference (positive kind).
Let’s see if the Bears’ excellent secondary ties up their backup WRs who somehow managed to connect with Stafford in a huge win last week.
I've been on a boat since last Saturday, so I am just learning about the disappointing result last week. I also learned that apparently a hurricane passed not that far from where I was (Bahamas - the weather was lovely).
Anyway, without having read much about last week or this week's preparation, I am going with:
Bears start first drive faking shotgun, then going under center. Good. Trying to establish the run. Good. Get a first down. Good. Now 3rd and 4 they're shotgun and empty and throw a horizontal pass that fails. WTF.

Inactives:
WR Velus Jones Jr.
DB Terell Smith
FB Khari Blasingame
OL Bill Murray
DL Dominique Robinson
DL Zacch Pickens
Guess Blas isn’t quite 100%
And to think Poles could have actually gotten a draft pick for Stone Hands Jones.
And they start the next drive with a horizontal play. For a 5 yard loss. Please tell me this is just a bad dream.

You know it's bad when your MVP after 2 drives is the punter.

Dumb penalties adding to the misery. Just nudge the guy Brisker!
But then Stafford throws a baffling ball right to Brisker. Was he out of bounds and then came back in which could negate the pick?

Tevin Jenkins down. Will be interesting to see what they do. Move Pryor to LG and insert Davis??

Fire the entire coaching staff when the game ends. And Poles should be on notice for the travesty of an "O-line" (ours does not deserve that title) he has put together.
1.5 quarters, 60 yards in penalties, punter is still the MVP. 0 points. Just how you draw it up.
