It’s only astonishing if you don’t look at other games/teams.dplank wrote: Sun Dec 22, 2024 8:32 pmTrue, but why are the misses in KCs favor at an astonishing rate? If it were random as you say, wouldn’t it spread out more evenly?southdakbearfan wrote: Sun Dec 22, 2024 4:12 pm
Yep. Cherry pick here and there, ignore misses the other way for 3/4 the game.
I got news for people. Officiating is hard, calls are missed every single play.
If someone bets me heads/tails, and it comes up heads 10 times in a row - I’m going to ask to see the coin.

Hence my suggestion of how to grade referee influence. No one has time for that but PFF, but I can smell a rat here. As can tons of other people. You keep avoiding the point here, if someone flips heads 10 times straight are you shrugging it off and saying “well it’s a 50/50 chance each time, so….” Or are you calling bullshit and asking to see if it’s a two headed coin because the odds of 10 straight are 1:1,024 if I did that math right.southdakbearfan wrote: Mon Dec 23, 2024 6:02 amIt’s only astonishing if you don’t look at other games/teams.dplank wrote: Sun Dec 22, 2024 8:32 pm

PFF ratings and rankings for individual officials! Give them credit when they get a call right and pick them up on bad calls. The NFL and the officials would love that. Putting the officiating as under the microscope as the players are. It's only fair after all.dplank wrote: Sun Dec 22, 2024 9:50 am I thought of a new metric PFF should do…
They should check every penalty called, and count up all of the “questionable ones” (that’s their judgement just like if a pass pro rep was successful or not). Just the questionable calls only, so we aren’t including bad play from teams and trying to identify referee impact only. Have that count for every team. And the apply a severity multiplier to each one, say on a scale of 1-4 or something, where a 1 call that wasn’t impactful, 2 impacted a drive negatively, 3 impacted a potential score or turnover, and 4 is a potential outcome changing call.
This would provide some unbiased metrics for the league to consider.

Yep, a little transparency would be a really good thing given the volume of flags we see and the obvious impact they have on football game outcomes. It would really help qualify and quantify a lot of the theories out there that the league has their thumb on the scale in some manner. I'm not willing to just blindly trust them as so many seem to be willing to do.HisRoyalSweetness wrote: Mon Dec 23, 2024 9:08 amPFF ratings and rankings for individual officials! I will admit, some of the memes with the Chiefs/refs are golden.

Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you.dplank wrote: Tue Nov 05, 2024 2:02 pmOf course, but I respect probability and statistics and the fact that they consistently miss calls in favor of KC defies randomness and points to something else.southdakbearfan wrote: Tue Nov 05, 2024 12:10 pm Eh, they miss calls all the time. Humans are imperfect.
I agree, this feels like an egregious "looking of the other way".

Maybe the Texans should not give up 8 sacks and make some kicks. I think that had more to do with them losing than the refs. I'm sure there will be more complaining next week, though.

Refs called a clean game.
wtf happened to Stroud? He was TURRIBLE!!! Most of those sacks shouldn’t have happened if he just throws the ball away.

I couldn’t tell if the refs were an issue with the constant Aikman sucking off the Texans commentary making me go blind.

Stroud looked bad IMO. Indecisive and it seemed to big for him.southdakbearfan wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 9:18 pm I couldn’t tell if the refs were an issue with the constant Aikman sucking off the Texans commentary making me go blind.

Two questionable roughing the passer calls, but the Texans lost that game all on their own.

Both roughing the passer calls were BS. Mahomes slid super late, didn't even get hit and somehow got a call. It's true the Texans didn't do themselves any favors but going 3 and out on the first drive versus giving up a long drive for 3 or 7 points can't remember which is a big momentum shift. If you watch that Tackle he starts early every play, starts rocking back before the ball is snapped.

He looked like a qb that was being harassed every other play. Their line really sucked pass blocking.dplank wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 9:23 pmStroud looked bad IMO. I would say both were 50/50. You hit a qb anywhere near the head or near a slide the benefit of the doubt is going to the qb. Especially a star qb.wab wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 9:59 pm Two questionable roughing the passer calls, but the Texans lost that game all on their own.
The helmet to helmet was minor on the first, but u knew they were gonna call it. The slide may have been last minute but again it’s a judgement call in a league prioritizing protecting qbs. It’s gonna get called.

Both felt like bad calls to me, and of course both went in favor of KC. Which is kinda the problem when it happens week after week. Randomness of bad calls is nullified at that point.
But Houston would have lost anyways IMO

He didn't explicitly mention the officials, but it's not hard to read between the lines whilst he also didn't absolve his team from all the mistakes they made especially on special teams."We knew going into this game, man, it was us versus everybody. When I say everybody, I mean everybody. The naysayers, the doubt. Everybody, we had to go against again today
Going into this game knowing what we were up against, we can't make the mistakes we made. We had a lot of self-inflicted mistakes that happened, whether it was special teams not converting our kicks; defensively, not being where we're supposed to be in coverage; offensively, not protecting our quarterback and keeping him clean
So, you marry that on top of everything else that we have to deal with, it's going be a really tough, uphill battle."

That’s fine if they call it for both teams that way, but we know they don’t. Fields didn’t get a roughing call for an entire season once. Lamar was tackled 6 yards out of bounds last night with no call. It’s beyond well established favoritism at this point, players coaches and fans all see it.
