Thought we might want to separate this discussion from the Shane Waldron thread.
5 Things The Bears O Can Address / Implement To Improve Overnight:
- More Boot - Specifically pull a guard to improve the boot action, use DJ & Rome as the slider / push to flat.
- Tie Caleb's Feet To His Progression - We have too many free drops IMO for Caleb.
- PA / RA Screen Action - Need more play action and run action to slip screen for H or Y.
- True Run Action Shot Plays.
- Hot & Sight Adjustments - Caleb needs protection answers for 0 & 1.
I'd add that we need to limit some of Caleb's ability to make checks at the line. Limit his option at least for the time being - at least until he's more dialed in.

He’s a winner, he’s going to do well.
He’s an ass-kicker too.
He’s a better HC than Flus

Fingers crossed we get two OT back and he leads Caleb to progress over the coming weeks.

IMO, the dissension between players - some being called out (but not named) for not giving 100%, some going behind Caleb's back and asking that he be benched - makes this move moot.
The Bears figure to be an even bigger disheveled mess on Sunday. They likely never cross midfield

Lest we forget, Brown was interviewed for the OC role and Poles and Flus passed on him in favour of Waldron.

This is good. Brown now has a shot at showing why they messed up in not choosing him in the first place.HisRoyalSweetness wrote: Tue Nov 12, 2024 1:48 pm Lest we forget, Brown was interviewed for the OC role and Poles and Flus passed on him in favour of Waldron.

Checklist for new #Bears OC Thomas Brown…
1. Get extra #’s in the box for run game.
2. Engineer WR separation. Picks, clear/replace, motion at the snap.
3. Incorporate max-protection.
4. Find 4 run plays that mirror PA/Have 3 screens ready.
5. Run one gadget play a week.

Don't care what system(s) Brown has used in the past. Caleb's development has to be jump started back on track. He has to be kept upright in one piece. Novel concepts: use the RBs and TEs in the passing game, it was damn effective. Work the center of the field with the WRs. Run the ball until the other team shows it can stop the run. You know, the crap that was working until Waldron shit canned it.

Ex-RB and former TE coach. If he can successfully utilize both in the Bears offense he'll be miles a head of Waldron.

If he interviewed for all those OC jobs and a HC one and had to settle for a passing-game coordinator position in Chicago, let's hope he's just really, really bad at interviews.

He would have been a tough sell for anyone hiring him as an OC - he had just come from a terrible Carolina team. That wasn't all his fault - Frank Reich was in his Nagy era and was giving/taking play calling duties all year long - but he still had that stink on him. I think the hope was that this would be a rehab year for him and then he'd move on to an OC job somewhere next season. Could still happen, but he's going to have to turn around Caleb's season against the toughest remaining schedule in the NFL.

Man, who inherits 2 Interim OC jobs 2 years in a row after train wrecks?
Still, it shouldn't be distressing he didn't get an OC job this season.

Given the situation he's got to do something impressive to keep his job, and probably has a bit of a free pass if things don't get better (or at least it won't look worse for him than it already is...) so perhaps that spurs him on to shake things up, bench guys who aren't bringing it etc. This week is looking almost impossible but there's an outside chance he sparks something and gives at least a glimmer of hope for the rest of the season. September 2025 is a long way away!artbest01 wrote: Tue Nov 12, 2024 1:36 pm IMO, the dissension between players - some being called out (but not named) for not giving 100%, some going behind Caleb's back and asking that he be benched - makes this move moot.

McVay is high level - no doubt.
If he turns this offense around he deserves the HC gig, but if it’s working as OC with Flus as HC calling defense then keep it going.
I just think Flus has lost the locker room.

The OL still sucks so I am not holding my breath for any thing good to happen. The franchise is still a trainwreck (as we all know).
Absolutely no expectations for this move. The pessimist in me states it will not make one bit of difference.

Nate Tice had a really good segment on Hoge & Jahns this morning. Goes through all of the problems with Waldron (the biggest being that the offense looks nothing like a McVay offense), but I thought the most interesting part was when Hoge pressed him on what Thomas Brown could doo in the next few days and weeks to turn the offense around. Tice had a few thoughts:
1. Personnel changes - move Keenan to WR3 and get Rome on the field as WR2. Keenan is to limited as a player to be anything but a slot at this point and isn't going to win downfield All of his snaps need to go to Rome. Get DJ Moore more involved either with more quick-hitter screens or in motion - use his ability to run like a RB and get the ball in his hands.
2. Streamline the offense/formations. There are too many formations and plays and none of them build off of each other. There was zero flow to Waldron's playcalling and defenses were able to identify plays based off of formation. Tice wants the Bears to limit formations and have more plays within each formation so defenses don't have such any easy job identifying what is coming.
3. Get Caleb under center. Doesn't need to be all of the time but there needs to be more work under center and more PA.
4. Condense the formations. The Bears are spread too wide and everything turns into sideline routes. Also far too many out routes where the WR has no room to work. Get the formations condensed and work WRs and TEs in bunches so the defense is put into conflict - and you can scheme open receivers.

He sounded pretty damn good during his press conference. He sounded like a man with a plan and someone who won't put up with shit. And because of that, he will not last with this franchise. He sounded like a head coach, more so than the current mealy mouth who is the HC currently.
He is not into quick fixes. He wants long term success.

Sorry. Nothing about this franchise of late or in the past, gives me hope of any kind. I don't believe in fairy tales either. I have basically washed my hands of this franchise for the year. Rip the shit off my office walls for the second year in a row. Put my shirts and hats away as well. They are not deserving of my time at this point. I hope they can win at least 2 more games this season, but not feeling it.

Last year, his Carolina team with Bryce Young, scored 4 TDs and a FG against Green Bay Packers and lost it on a field goal 33-30 with 14 seconds left
