For the 4th consecutive year, Michigan has beaten Ohio State. Making it especially bad this year is that the loss keeps the Buckeyes out of the Big 10 title game, they'll be in the college playoffs but have to play a first round game, no bye. Also, Michigan wasn't exactly a powerhouse this year, being unranked. I wonder if Day's job security might be in jeopardy (and, no, I'm not advocating the Bears hiring him as head coach).

I would be curious if the ncaa might knock them out altogether due to the fight. I would assume 15-20 players won’t be playing.Grizzled wrote: Sun Dec 01, 2024 8:13 am For the 4th consecutive year, Michigan has beaten Ohio State. The fight was justified IMO. Michigan needs to show some class there. That never happened under Harbaugh, even though he beat them 3 times straight.

Not disagreeing, but when cops and pepper spray are used to disperse them, I think the ncaa may take a further look. Who know.dplank wrote: Sun Dec 01, 2024 12:50 pm The fight was justified IMO. Michigan may have provoked the fight but don't know if "justified" is the word I"d use. That thing got way out of hand. When Ohio St. player keep trying to rip the Michigan flag out of fans' hands I don't see the need for that.dplank wrote: Sun Dec 01, 2024 12:50 pm The fight was justified IMO. I do think that both teams will be missing several players for the rest of the year.

I suppose it’s old school mentality, but as a society overall I just think there’s too much disrespect without enough consequence.

There is so little accountability today. I'm really struggling to get that message through to my foster kid right now.dplank wrote: Mon Dec 02, 2024 11:17 am I suppose it’s old school mentality, but as a society overall I just think there’s too much disrespect without enough consequence.

I don't disagree with that. But if player does something to disrespect the other team/game/whatever, that consequence can't be the guy who was disrespected punches them in the mouth. It falls on officials, coaches and league offices to do something about it.dplank wrote: Mon Dec 02, 2024 11:17 am I suppose it’s old school mentality, but as a society overall I just think there’s too much disrespect without enough consequence.
The TO situation - 15 yard flag, NFL comes down on him via the pocket book (which granted wouldn't be a big hit to him with what he was making). I'm in favor of rules that you get more than one in a game you get tossed, more than 3(???) in a season miss the rest of that game and the next.
Like I said with all the travel/family time I had last week, I haven't seen the clips from start to finish. I did see something from the Ohio St/Michigan game with an Ohio St player holding a Michigan flag and someone (clearly not a player) taking it from them and it going back and forth. I think you posted elsewhere about "planting flags" I have no problem them taking them down and if the "flag planter" initiated contact them getting shoved/knocked down. Not saying when the other side does that towards you, you do nothing. Just has to be proportional.
Last game at UCA we lost in the playoffs as time expired. The place was packed running back who scored was running along the fence. A fan yelled something at him. His response - run back, take his helmet off and hit the guy in the head and broke his jaw.
I think it was the other thread that talked about "acting like you've been there" and I'm 100% on that, but when people say do stupid things that are disrespectful, I've tended to ignore them or flip it on them. I remember a game where I had to cover a guy who was bigger, stronger, faster and pretty much better than me in every way. I was our better CB so our coach had me follow him to whatever side he was on. He ATE MY LUNCH all day, but they still couldn't score and our offense was humming. We were up late a whole bunch to nothing and he makes a catch and starts chipping about how I can't cover, can't stop him him, blah blah blah. I said something along the lines of "true, but your TEAM is getting smoked and this is a TEAM game and we are going to win." The rest of game I pulled a Charlie Sheen before Charlie did. I'd just sit across from him going "winning, winning, winning." Dude lost his cool and started throwing punches after a play and got tossed.

I’m fine punching a guy in the mouth if he’s disrespectful to my wife or kid or something. Call me a bad person, don’t care. People need to shut their mouths sometimes or pay the price.
I had no problem with the Cowboys housing TO when he did that on the star years ago.
And the end game thing at OSU was just a usual football scuffle, where well protected guys push and swing and no one gets hurt. Cops changed the dynamic a bit but that’s an entirely different thing.

Don't think it makes you a bad person, just not the route I'd want people to follow, especially in the world we live in today. Guy says something to your wife as you walk by, you get in a fight only to realize you brought your fist and he brought a gun.dplank wrote: Mon Dec 02, 2024 2:50 pm I’m fine punching a guy in the mouth if he’s disrespectful to my wife or kid or something. Perhaps - another sign of societal decline. People don't settle their differences like they used to, have a fight then share a beer afterwards - now they just shoot each other. Just sad. But I'm 53 and I've made it this far, so I'll keep on the way I've been doing it.

That's true. My first "interaction" with a guy who became one of my best friends from 5th grade through high school was "meeting at the park" after school to fight.dplank wrote: Mon Dec 02, 2024 6:08 pm Perhaps - another sign of societal decline. I've never felt like I needed to fight or shoot anyone, and I think what you're describing is pretty rare. Words are pretty effective if you actually use them in a way that communicates the problem and focuses on the issue/action rather than the person. The idea that people need to physically fight each other (in any form) to settle their differences is sad, to me.dplank wrote: Mon Dec 02, 2024 6:08 pm Perhaps - another sign of societal decline. There’s a trend on social media now where influencers are doing all sorts of horrible stuff specifically to provoke and film. I find it sad that we don’t see them getting the shit kicked out of them on a regular basis. JMO

Sounds like you'd be feeding the problem by drawing attention. Perhaps. I'm ok with that lol. There's just too much disrespect going on in this world and not enough people willing to stand up to it IMO.LacertineForest wrote: Tue Dec 03, 2024 11:47 amSounds like you'd be feeding the problem by drawing attention. I've been in hundreds of fights and the vast majority were over "disrespect". I don't say that as a brag...it's honestly a fact I'm quite embarrassed by now as an adult. It's something that truly fills me with regret.

That was an amazing butt whooping over Oregon. Any team that plays them has to be very nervous. Michigan just seems to live in his head.IotaNet wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2025 12:38 am Resident tOSU fanboy here to give the devil his due.

I gotta say that this college playoff system has me watching more college football than ever before. Well done NCAA, making a rule change that significantly improved the sport IMO. OSU would have been left out in the old Top 4 model, and ASU gave Texas everything they could handle.
Also I don't know who #33 is at DE on OSU, but I'd like for him to be a Bear. Him and that Scataboo dude or whatever the hell his name is, looked like Mike Alstott out there.

Cam Skattebo is the only RB in college football to have 1500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards since Christian McCaffrey in 2017

Sawyer is fun but inconsistent. His teammate JT Tuimoloua is more consistent but less flashy.
I'd prefer Tuimoloua due to that, but certainly wouldn't object to Sawyer.

But his team put on a clinic yesterday of how to scout and prepare for a team. There wasn't a single thing Oregon did yesterday that Ohio St didn't have an answer for.
