Lots of wacky stuff today!
Doug Pederson gets fired but Trent Baalke somehow still has a job. Dude absolutely must have pictures of Goodell.

Baalke is a shock. The only question is how does that impact Ben Johnson?

I like it, sort of. They should have a team president instead of the owner, but put the HC on at least the same level as the GM.

So far it's just Mayo and Pederson. I sort of expected a slew of them this morning.

Baalke is also league-wide poorly regarded.wulfy wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:26 am Baalke staying in Jax is huge for the Bears. I saw them as the biggest competitor for Ben Johnson.
The ābring your own GM narrativeā is now slightly watered down.

Reporting from Dolphins nation here in S Florida....most folks I know are done with McDaniel and pissed that the owner confirmed he and the GM are returning. I thought maybe with Tyreke speaking out that he wants to go elsewhere that might be a domino effect, but nope.

Man, the Lou Anarumo thing feels weird, people were really talking about him being one of the best DC's in the game last year. What a difference a year makes.

I'll need to do a bit more digging - but a quick look on Pro Football Reference shows he's only ever had one defense in the top half of the league in his 7 years as Defensive Coordinator.Rusty Trombagent wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:54 amMan, the Lou Anarumo thing feels weird, people were really talking about him being one of the best DC's in the game last year. You crack me up, I just did the same thing and came here to post his "points allowed" rankings as a DC:Magilla_Gorilla wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 10:03 amI'll need to do a bit more digging - but a quick look on Pro Football Reference shows he's only ever had one defense in the top half of the league in his 7 years as Defensive Coordinator.Rusty Trombagent wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:54 am

Agreed. This is what Bears should be doing too. But apparently they aren't.dplank wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:16 am I like it, sort of. They should have a team president instead of the owner, but put the HC on at least the same level as the GM.

maybe they're leaving it to Johnson to fire him? sort of like an introductory test of how aware Johnson is of their organizationdplank wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 8:35 am Baalke is a shock. The only question is how does that impact Ben Johnson?
Jaguars owner : "OK, I think that pretty much covers everything. Our GM is waiting to speak to you once you sign."
Johnson : "No he isn't. My GM's flight doesn't land until tomorrow."
Jaguars owner : * smiles and hands him a pen

Who does the failure to develop fall upon, though?
The DC for not coaching them up? The GM or drafting poor quality players? Both?

Replace titles with names and I'm unconvinced. Kevin Warren is more of a Kevin Warren guy than a football guy. We're just not set up for that kind of structure. The Cooler King wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 10:26 amAgreed. This is what Bears should be doing too. So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.

A little bit of digging around social media and fans seem to genuinely like him, and would have rather seen Zac or the GM go. Say that the cupboard was bare on Defense after letting multiple guys go last season (like Jessie Bates).G08 wrote: Mon Jan 06, 2025 11:03 amWho does the failure to develop fall upon, though?
