Several have been fired in-season and on Black Monday. Here's a place where the hiring of new guys can be tracked:
Bears: also followed in the Halas Hall thread. Fired Matt Eberflus mid-season for the first time a head coach has been fired mid-season in the team's 105 year history. The fate of GM Ryan Poles is still supposedly being determine and might be a factor in the hiring of a new Head Coach who might want his GM in place. Supposedly have an interview with Mike Vrabel later this week. The Bears have made interview requests of Johnson and Aaron Glenn, Detroit DC
Jets: Fired Robert Saleh, head coach, and Joe Douglas, GM, mid-season. Mike Vrabel has interviewed for the job. Matt Nagy has been invited to interview
Jacksonville: Fired Doug Pederson on Black Monday. No work on GM Trent Balke at this time although at least one candidate, Ben Johnson, would prefer his own GM if hired
Saints: Fired Dennis Allen mid-season.
Giants: not firing Brian Daboll, HC, and Joe Schoen, GM, are returning in 2025
Raiders: No work yet on Antonio Pierce, Head Coach
Patriots: Fired head coach Jerrod Mayo on Black Monday. Mike Vrabel, former player with the team is expected to interview and might be the favorite
Cowboys: Head Coach Mike McCarthly's contract has expired; no word on him being rehired at this time.

Mark Davis and Tom Brady who went into business with him. Which one's "dumb" and which one's "dumber"?Grizzled wrote: Thu Jan 09, 2025 7:41 pm I initially thought that was an actor from 'Dumb or Dumber'.

The Raiders have an interest in Pete Carroll. The Saints (as well as the Bears) have an interest in Mike McCarthy if he doesn't re-sign with the Cowboys. It's thought Vrabel is a done deal to the Pats but he likes Poles a lot and the Bears situation.

Wow, could imagine that dynamic? I wonder how the locker room would feel about it.Grizzled wrote: Sat Jan 11, 2025 2:38 pm Deion Sanders has expressed strong interest in the Raiders job and has supposedly reached out to them. Weird enough that LeBron and his son both play basketball for the same team. Would Deion come down on his son if he lost the team a game? He'd have to or lose locker room.HisRoyalSweetness wrote: Sat Jan 11, 2025 7:11 pmWow, could imagine that dynamic? Mike McCarthy has left the building, he and the Cowboys are done, no new contract. In related news, Jerry Jones said that he has talked to Deion Sanders regarding the job. Don't see much way for Dallas to end up with his son also, who he wants to coach, save and excepting Dallas were to trade Dak to Tennessee or Cleveland for their high draft pick in '25. And they would be taking on a massive salary and iffy health record instead of a rookie on a 5 year (relatively) minor salary. Or maybe Dallas could trade three future 1st round picks, which has typically shown to be a bad move.

Since the Cowboys did not talk to either of the coaching candidates from the Lions (and, I'm assuming Monken and Joe Brady) before the wild card games, they will not be to talk to any of them until either theire team loses in the playoffs or it wins its respective league championship.

Vrabel was looking to hire him as his OC, but looks like that's out now.

Aaron Glenn - being pursured by Saints and Jets
Mike McCarthy - Bears and Saints seem to be looking at him; he worked for Saints 20+ years ago
Ben Johnson - Dallas is interested but can't interview until the Lions either win the NFC championship or get knocked out this weekend as they didn't talk to him already. Also, Jerry has never shared player selection with a HC and I doubt he changes now. Numerous folk are now complaining that Brady working the Detroit playoff games gives him access to Johnson as broadcasters are allowed to talk to folk. If he discusses the Raider HC opening, it would be a clear violation of league rules but would the league do anything?

The Raiders have a worse roster than than the Bears. Less chance this year of drafting an impact QB. They go through HCs even more frequently than the Bears. They do, however, have $92M+ in cap space. Reportedly they are prepared to offer Ben Johnson an obscene amount for a first time HC. That is supposedly a prime motivator for Johnson.

Assuming they are going to pay him the most money, and that money is guaranteed, then the HC turnover issue becomes a moot point honestly. Money talks, Bears will need to pay up to get him and IMO we won't. I know they said money wouldn't be an issue with the hire, but actions speak louder than words. My guess is he goes to Vegas and all we hear from the Bears is how Coach XXX was our guy all along, and the fact that he costs half what Johnson costs wasn't really a factor lol...it's the Bears way.Grizzled wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 9:33 am The Raiders have a worse roster than than the Bears. Here is a list of the top earners in the NFL. Andy Reid leads the way at $20M with Sean Payton at $18M, Harbaugh and Tomlin at $16M, and McVay at $15M. I read Johnson wants $15M, which is a show stopper for a rookie HC but if Vegas goes to $20 or 21M, they might have theri man.dplank wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 1:05 pmAssuming they are going to pay him the most money, and that money is guaranteed, then the HC turnover issue becomes a moot point honestly. I won't fault the Bears for not paying Johnson 20 million. 15 is even a pretty big pill to swallow, but there's no way he should be the highest paid coach in the NFL as a rookie.

Yes, there's no coaching cap, yes, it's not our money, yes, they can afford it.
But if it's true, it indicates a ridiculous arrogance and lack of awareness about the established market, his (extremely brief) resume, and his leverage, which is very likely to be problematic in other ways.
The "I must have my own GM" rumor would also be concerning, if true.
They may well not be. But it seems odd to me - (excluding Coach Prime Time) are there any other candidates out there with similar rumors about sizeable demands?
If there's 2 out there about him and 0 about anyone else (who isn't a cartoon character) - it seems like there's maybe something going on about him being demanding.

I have no problem with it being $15m if that includes a lot of incentives to hit that figure. $1m for making the playoffs, $1m more for winning the division, $1m per playoff win, and $2m for winning the Super Bowl.
With a base of $10m then a Super Bowl win, whether via a wild card or division win, would add up to $15m.

I'll never for the life of me understand this take. Who fucking cares how much he asks for? These are billionaires and if he can get the money he should! He's walking into a situation where everyone is impatient as hell (GM's, fans, owners, media) and most coaches are getting fired before they even change their drivers license. I cannot roll my eyes back into my head hard enough for the "it's arrogant to ask for more money" take.Moriarty wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 3:14 pmThe rumored 15M simply isn't acceptable.wab wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 2:54 pm I won't fault the Bears for not paying Johnson 20 million. 15 is even a pretty big pill to swallow, but there's no way he should be the highest paid coach in the NFL as a rookie.

I do think making him the highest paid coach in the league is pretty out of line (not that he's asking that, but more speculative bidding war stuff).Rusty Trombagent wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 4:37 pmI'll never for the life of me understand this take. Agree wholeheartedly with Rusty here. You are worth whatever someone is willing to pay you. Who cares what it costs the McCaskeys? We want the best, pay for it! Might he bust? Of course, but owners who care about winning above all else won’t let that deter them. Sadly we don’t have those types of ownersRusty Trombagent wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 4:37 pmI'll never for the life of me understand this take. Who fucking cares how much he asks for? HE SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET IT BECAUSE HE SHOULD BE TOLD "NO!"
If the CEO of Mars, Inc was retiring and a replacement choice was identified and he requested a 1M annual salary would you give it to him? Sure.
What if he wanted 10M?
100M?
500M?
1B?
No?!?!?!?!?!?
You mean there's established precedents, other people available, a limit to how much value they can bring, a possibility they won't do a good job, an expectation that they prove themselves first?
But the Mars family are billionaires!
Being a CEO is stressful!
Owners demand results!
Eye rolls!
Hysteria!
Exclamation points!
Every single new hire should be able to reset the market!
They should be paid any amount they ask for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s a competitive hire Moriarty. You must acknowledge the reality that we are in competition with owners who simply have no fucks to give. We can’t hold to some “yet to exist standard” while other teams operate more aggressively. Should the Dodgers have paid Ohtani nearly a billion dollars? They won a World Series and he was a big part of it, the owners clearly don’t care about the money, so…yea.

Jerry Jones has requested an interview with Kellen Moore, OC of the Eagles and former Cowboys OC. Since he didn't virtually interview Moore yet, he has to wait until after the Eagles are eliminated from the playoffs or after the NFC championship game if they win to interview him.
