INJURIES
- Billings is out of his sling
- Braxton is having shoulder surgery
- Jaylon Jones is having shoulder surgery
- Jaquon is doing better
No timetable for any of them.
OVERALL
- disappointed in the season and takes responsibility for it
- said that the hype going into the season clouded all of the details, accountability, and poise needed to win
- roster isn't talented enough
- need to find guys to "fit the culture"
- kisses George and Kevin's asses for not firing him
- praises a lot of the roster
COACH
- has looked back to prior coach process to see how it went wrong and is revamping current process for upcoming hire
- wouldn't clarify how the process of hiring Eberflus went wrong
- just kinda spewed platitudes
- wouldn't go into detail about the Shane Waldron disaster, just kinda said it was his fault
CONTRACT/POWER STRUCTURE
- won't discuss his contract at all
- says he's in charge of football ops and coach will be hired and report to him
This is all a waste of time.

I don't need Poles to wow me with personality. I need him to build a competitive football team.
Braxton having shoulder surgery is interesting. Could explain some of his regression this season.

This is the same old shit from the Bears.
1. Hostile stance toward media when confronted with failures.
2. Zero details regarding contracts and decision-making process.
3. Platitudes and coachspeak nothingness answers.
4. Confusing responses regarding power structure.
5. Feels like Poles didn't prepare for this at all beyond the injury updates.
...but he's not getting fired, that much is clear.

Which also though could easily speak to his regression with handling bull rushers

My question is, "What did you expect?"
What words would Poles have used that would have placated everyone?
What did you want to know that he didn't address?

Nothing, honestly. Which is why I'm perplexed this press conference even took place. Just put out a press release and take the league fine for not holding the event.IotaNet wrote: Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:20 am My question is, "What did you expect?"

Which is not to say the whole team is in good shape
But rather to say that the team is in a hole
I have no confidence in this man and for the life of me I cannot imagine why anyone else would either.

I do want to say that as I listen to him speak, I feel that his "inexperience" shows in that he's being more reactionary to issues as they occur. I appreciate his desire to get to the root cause and install systems to ensure it doesn't happen again -- this is proof of learning -- but I suppose being 39 years old and have fewer than 3 years on the job is showing a bit.
Hopefully these are growing pains and he springboards from here.

I think we can all agree on one thing: It would be extremely funny if about 4 hours from now the Bears announced that Poles was fired.

100% of fans can never be placated by coach, GM or owner pressers. I didn't listen, didn't want to hear the non-answers and lack of detail. I can listen later or just keep my eye on this thread. I am not sure any GM would go into detail of how they failed the past coaching search. That way no one knows what they may be trying different this time, if anything.
Sounds like by admitting fault he was impersonating Eebz last few pressers.

I'm sorry I don't give a single fuck about knowing his contract status. It's irrelevant for any of us to know.
Do we WANT to know because we're Die Hard obsessed lunatics? Of course. OF COURSE!
But, honestly, who the fuck cares?

My bubble was burst when he showed up at the podium. From there I didn't have any expectations so not a big deal either way, pressers are pressers. At the very end, last question, he did say that he thought the draft and FA class lined up well for him to attack the OL this offseason - hoping that is the case and he follows through.

I’m here for the “he’s our savior” or “he’s a complete bum” extremes.
Pretty much sounded like most press conferences of GMs I’ve seen in the past.

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Caleb, and Super Bowls followed with him.

It was a generic end of year press conference after a losing season. It's exactly what I expected... no more, no less. It's exactly the same press conference 99.9% of NFL GMs are giving this week.

I will now pivot from Poles bashing (no point since he is going to be here), to Poles suggestion box (what I hope he does going forward). For better or worse he's in charge for another offseason. My biggest hope is that he's shown a tendency in the past to go hard after one particular position group of weakness, maybe OL turn this year?

I was not expecting a tell-all, revealing testimony.
The media will always clamor for every bit of detail that they can get and Poles did show the grace to get through that without stepping on folks unnecessarily.
He's not about to spill every detail and I think that's a good thing.

There is a GM named Poles

He’s rebuilt his team

He made mention at the end about Free Agency and the 2025 NFL Draft being vehicles to address the offensive line (duh).
At least he's been thinking about it, I guess.
I don't know.
