Payton was 5'10 and 200lb.

That was 30 years ago though. Guys are undeniably bigger and stronger now than then. I really dont' know, I suppose I just don't want to draft a RB that high - being 5'9 isn't an automatic disqualifier or anything but I just feel like everything had better be absolutely perfect to spend that high a pick on a RB, so any little dings makes me just not wanna do it.

I like Jeanty but I don't think he's a top 10 value. Somewhere in the 20's would be fine, but not top 10.

Jeanty has been wrapped up very easily a few times when facing bigger defenses. I doubt he goes top 10, I doubt he’s number 1 RB

The other issue I have with Jeanty is that I’m not sold on the level of competition he played against week-in, week-out.

Well put, it’s kind of what wanted to say. When he did come up against tougher opposition he was wrapped up a lot easier.

Why is height a detriment in pass protection? I've never heard that for a back and can't think of a reason why it would be the case.

A search indicates that the average height for running backs in the NFL now is 5'10. Fullbacks average 6'0.

If you use a first rounder and he's Jahmyr Gibbs, it's worth it. If he's not, it's not. The NFL goes through swings, for the last ten years running backs, linebackers, and safeties have been devalued. I think that trend is currently reversing. Teams are using backs differently over the last couple of years and I also think it's a major fallacy that you can "just get whomever" in the later rounds and find a guy. There are a. Lot of bad running backs in the league.

On the other hand, I don't think they should draft Jeanty unless they've improved DL and OL through trade or FA prior to the draft.

Yeah, I don't believe height in and of itself is a detriment in pass protection for a RB. They aren't stonewalling dudes, just getting in the way to buy time.

I think it's more about overall size. The Cohens of the world are never going to excel at pass blocking but 5'9" and 200 plus a guy should be adequate I'd think. I think I'd be more worried about a guy who was built solid trying to take on blocks.

Like Oregon? He only averaged 7.7 yards a carry against the Ducks. Yes, RBs usually don't fare as well against the top rush defenses as they do against weaker competition. Jeanty had a few tough games this seasons - generally against teams that sold out to stop him and routinely put 8 in the box - like Penn St. Despite being a one-man army Jeanty far and away led the nation in Yards after Contact with 1990 yards - 700+ more than 2nd and 3rd place rushers Hampton and Skattebo.

I, uh, am developing an unhealthy man-crush on Cam Skattebo.

I see a lot of David Montgomery in his game.

Since everyone loves Middleguard's contest I was thinking, to keep offseason engagement up, I was going to run my own contest: What kind of car does everyone drive? I've got most of my own guesses locked in, I just need to type it up.

There's always a chance someone purchases a sensible used Kia Sorrento (110k miles, check engine light on, could use an alignment) mid-contest throwing things into chaos, but that's a risk I'm willing to take.

It's a Sportage, not a Sorrento. And the alignment is fine (warranty runs out this fall, so I need to get it in before then).

Plus, 110k is weaksauce – well over 170k now.

This is a funny reminder that i saw this bad boy in Portland Maine back in 2018:

There was no sign of the owner, which is probably for the best. We probably would have had the world's most embarrassing conversation about how Nagy and Mitch were about to win a superbowl.

I don't drive in Vietnam. Let the pros do it, which means I ride in a wide variety of poorly maintained "Grab" vehicles. Grab is the Southeast Asia equivalent of Uber (and in fact, Grab bought Uber out of the region somehow). I'm not sure how such an arrangement will score in your contest. Maybe I can get some kind of Rusty's Special Edition Satchel of Banh Chung Award of Merit?

(What is Banh Chung? Traditional glutinous new year rice cakes that taste like a kind of soggy nothing with added sand particles, weigh 47 pounds, have roughly 743,000 calories per ounce, and are over produced to the tune of like 11,000 pounds per person every lunar new year.)
