That'll do.

Woo Hoo! Doesn't seem like a big overpay. I was thinking it would get crazy and be north of $18AAV

Pretty fair deal TBH. Gimme a defensive lineman or two and I'll be pleased as punch.

I love the $14M price point mostly because I thought his camp could have pushed for $17M with the way the cap is exploding.
This is EXCELLENT -- we've got him for three years at $14M per, which gives us time to draft and develop a kid if we want!
Braxton Jones / Joe Thuney / Drew Dalman / Jonah Jackson / Darnell Wright
Compared to this point in time last season? WOW.

Would not have been my first choice, but I can't gripe about this and at that price.

Hell yeah! Totally overhauled line already. I hope they keep at it in the draft so that we can finally have a team where young players are developed in time to replace the vets who either get too long in the tooth or for when we can't afford to keep everyone anymore.
Assuming that Ben Johnson has been driving the push to overhaul the lines and will continue to actually prioritize that, I feel pretty good that we will do just that.

Throw in Amegadjie, Bates, Murray, and Stromberg and the depth is pretty much set too. Puts the draft need down to someone falling unexpectedly or a Day 3 pick.G08 wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 11:45 am I love the $14M price point mostly because I thought his camp could have pushed for $17M with the way the cap is exploding.

Well well well....it was finally the OL's turn for Poles waterboy attack, and he's absolutely killing it. It's just a beautiful thing boys! We are gonna kick some serious ass next year. Will definitely be drafting DL.

I mean...$14M per for a 26 year-old C? A complete remake of the IOL? I'm on board. Right now I think the weak link on the line is LT. Jones had some bad games last year, and his injury concerns me. I also didn't like what I saw from Amegadjie, but he was more or less rushed into service while the OL was being triaged. I am far more optimistic about the OL this year than I was last.

This is the next domino which needs to fall. I'm sure Ben Johnson and Dan Roushar have watched all the tape already and know, when healthy, if they like Braxton Jones or not.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 12:02 pm Right now I think the weak link on the line is LT. I personally do not like his inability to hold a firm pocket -- he has struggled with bull rushes since he was a rookie -- but maybe they want to see him stronger/work on technique before saying he isn't a fit.
That being said, he's coming off a fairly serious injury and his backup had a very rough introduction to the NFL last season as a rookie. Word on the street is that he's working out with Olin Kreutz; I hope he's building NFL strength and working on technique.
I don't love the idea of him starting at LT next season (at this point in time), but we've seen crazier things. Maybe he comes into camp in outstanding shape and Roushar unlocks something in him during the course of training camp -- who knows. I still think we can add another body either via FA or the draft.

Make or break for Braxton now, let's see what he can do playing next to the best left guard in football...Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 12:02 pm I mean...$14M per for a 26 year-old C? Based on AAV they just made him the 2nd highest paid OC in the NFL. Overpaid but not unexpected.
Well, there's our IOL rebuild. Three new vet starters. One an All Pro one a former Pro Bowler and one who hopes to benefit from playing between the other two. Hopefully CW benefits from all of this spending as well.
Now onto a DE or a DT. I'm still looking at the guy from Detroit Onwuzurike.
