Seems a bit high for him, but if you want guys early on you have to pay.

I'm liking what the Bears are doing this offseason. And this signing is no exception. Did he produce like a beast last year? No really. But he's young, he's had a bunch of pressures, and the year before he had 8 sacks. Maybe being on the opposite of Sweat...and in Allen's defensive system...will help him improve from 2024.

I like Odeyingbo a lot.
This is a lot more than I'd have paid him (meaning I wouldn't have signed him then, in all likelihood).
But it's (basically) a two year deal for $16M per, so I suppose I can't really complain too much.

Compare/Contrast
The Cardinals have agreed to a four-year deal with pass rusher Josh Sweat, per source.
The contract is worth $76.4M with $41M guaranteed.

Compared to what other DEs are getting, this is a steal.

They're going to try and trade up for Jeanty. You heard it here first, gentlemen...Z Bear wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 1:52 pm There goes the last gaping hole in the starting lineup! Draft is setup for BPA now.

There is a GM named Poles
Who has a clear set of goals
He’s rebuilt his team
So Bears’ fans can dream
Of winning some more Super Bowls

6'6", 287, long arms. An Allen build. 3 down guy. Msybe with a strong DL, he can get back to 8 sacks, increase it to 10? He's still only 25 with upside.
Drafted 2nd round in 2021. 61 games, 19 started. 16.5 sacks (8 in 2023). 106 tackles, 21 for loss. 46 QB hits, 17 in each of the past 2 years.

We are going to be really hard to run against. I’ve never seen anything like this before as a Bears fan - we have 5 new starters of the 9 total LOS players!

That's a big dude. And he's only 25? It will be interesting to see what he is able to do with Sweat and Dexter on the line. I've been let down by this team so many times. But it looks like they're trying to get it right.Grizzled wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 4:48 pm 6'6", 287, long arms. An Allen build. 3 down guy. That came in right about where expected. I have to wonder if Poles was in on him at all.crueltyabc wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 2:26 pm Compare/Contrast

We got a Shemar Stewart size vet with some upside. Big mobile LDE type who can spell Sweat and we can also move around and play at DT as a pass rusher. Lighter version of Gervon Dexter. He was always in the mix as kid Poles would go after but may not have been his first choice.
If he doesn't spend on another Edge FA then a RDE is still in the mix on Day One or Two. Mykel Williams would be one guy who fits in the 1st. Nic Scourton would be another. Then there are a few more 2nd and 3rd round guys. Another contract we can be out of after two years if he doesn't work out.

If it were me I'd go OL still or maybe TE now.
But if they did draft a WR, id be fine with it. Develop him for a year or two and then move on from DJ

A year from now DJ will still only be 29, and two years he'll still only be 30 with a good contract for a WR of his quality.HurricaneBear wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 9:16 amMaybe?

30 years old with a good contract sounds like a perfect time to trade him for draft picks and let his replacement take overRichH55 wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 10:20 amA year from now DJ will still only be 29, and two years he'll still only be 30 with a good contract for a WR of his quality.HurricaneBear wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 9:16 am

Assuming no voids should equate to cap hits of 8, 20.5, 19.5

Looking at Over the cap, it seems like he's going to be here for 2 years for sure and the third year would be pretty easily cuttable if it wasn't working out.The Cooler King wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 10:26 pm

I think you can cut him after one year and it's not terrible either. The Cooler King wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 10:26 pm

Basically one year 16 million with two option years

I believe most of that 26 salary is guaranteed, so you don't really have a one year out. Gotta track down full details, but I think it's more like a 2 year deal with out.RichH55 wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 7:19 amI think you can cut him after one year and it's not terrible either. The Cooler King wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 10:26 pm
