Browns add Teven Jenkins to offensive line
Chris Easterling
Akron Beacon Journal

Cleveland announced the signing of veteran offensive lineman Teven Jenkins, along with the re-signing of cornerback/special-teams player Tony Brown II. The Browns were also hosting veteran linebacker and Cleveland native Jerome Baker on Thursday, a league source confirmed for the Beacon Journal.

Jenkins, 27, has spent his entire career with the Chicago Bears, who drafted him in the second round of the 2021 draft out of Oklahoma State. He's played in 45 career games with Chicago, including 38 starts.

There's versatility in Jenkins' game, which could make him a valuable piece for the Browns if it all works out. He's played both guard positions, as well as left tackle.

The Browns, in theory, have starters at all of those positions, especially at guard with Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller. Jenkins started 14 games at left guard last season for the Bears.

I wish him luck. Always liked Teven, but his health became so unreliable.

Good luck, Teven! You're due for some! :)

I think Teven will be a great backup for years to come. Good luck Tev.

In a world where the Packers gave Aaron Banks, a lesser player, hella money... this isn't great for Tev.

That sure is a long way off from where people were saying it was going to take $13M to $16M AAV to land Teven. Makes even some of the board member offers here of $10M AAV for 3 years seem like way too much money now.

Just goes to show, you can never tell how things are going to play out.

Agreed - and we Bears fans tend to either over value our own (like Tev) or undervalue guys (like Justin Jones).

The thing with Tev was that he was going to have to stay healthy to get that kind of money and he only finished like 8 games out of the 14 he started.

Still an incredible bargain for a player of that caliber. I'd rather have had him back at that price honestly, but that ship had clearly sailed.

If he's actually playing, though.

Sure looks like Teven is a backup at this point. But an injury can quickly elevate him to starter again.

He'll be interesting to watch.

I can easily see him getting frustrated at lack of opportunity (or injured some more) and walking away from football entirely in 1-2 yrs.

But I can see him getting a chance somewhere and collecting 50-100M+ before he's done, too.

I think it'll probably be a combination of both. All he has to do is turn in one long stretch of good healthy football and someone will pay him handsomely thinking that he's kicked the injury bug. Then he'll get hurt again and walk away with his money.

1 year $3.05M. $1.5 million signing bonus and a $1.17 million base salary. He can also make up to $1.5 million in playing time incentives and the Browns added four void years at the end of the deal, giving Jenkins a $1.79 million cap hit for next season. If he gets hurt, the Browns pay $300K for each of the next 4 seasons.

I agree here.

Yea there was no way he was coming back here at 3M as a backup. He needed a fresh start and I’ll be rooting for him.
