This is not an easy draft to call. There are not a lot of skill position players in the draft who seem to stand out. There is good depth along the lines though but evaluating that type of talent gets fuzzy quickly. For the most part the draft choices here are based largely on team needs after free agency moves.

Every year some position gets a run on and players seem to get grabbed up before their time. This season my guess is that offensive tackles are going to be the precious commodity. This would make Dallas a good possibility to be looking to move up. Remember this is for amusement only, your mileage may vary.

1. St Louis Rams, Sam Bradford, QB – The Rams have backed themselves into this pick unless they can find a trade partner. They have other more compelling needs that would have a greater immediate impact but the quarterback situation has to be addressed. This is a high risk pick.
2. Detroit Lions, Ndamukoung Suh, DT – Probably the best player in this draft he will have an immediate impact and if he can stay healthy he has great long-term value. He has the kind of explosive quickness that is very disruptive. Detroit might take Russell Okung in an attempt to extend Stafford’s career.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Gerald McCoy, DT – They need a lot of help on defense this is a position of need for the team at this point. They would be thrilled if Suh fell to them but the defense seems to be the likely direction in this slot.
4. Washington Redskins – Russell Okung, OT – A real need pick as the offensive line was not good and Samuel’s retirement makes this a critical requirement if expect to keep McNabb on the field through the season. There has been talk of Washington going for Clauson here but that seems very unlikely.
5. Kansas City Chiefs, Eric Berry, S – The defense needs help in several places but safety is perhaps the most immediate need. A playmaker he has good coverage skills and is very athletic, can play corner back as well, and might end up playing that position in the NFL. The offensive line is a lively possibility here as well; Trent Williams would be the likely choice if they go that direction.
6. Seattle Seahawks– Trent Williams, OT – The offensive line was a problem last season and the new coaching staff is going to need to establish a foundation for their offense. The defense needs secondary help and if Williams is not available Berry would be a viable option or possibly cornerback Joe Haden.
7. Cleveland Browns, Jimmy Clausen, QB – Another team that has traded away its quarterbacks in an obvious move to restructure the franchise. There are other needs here as well but they nee d a quarterback to build around and he may be the most field ready of any of the quarterbacks in this draft.
8. Oakland Raiders, Jason Pierre-Paul, DE – No one can tell what Al Davis might do with any certainty but Pieere-Paul fills a defensive need for a speed pass rusher he is raw and very athletic. The team could also look at improving the offensive line by adding Bruce Campbell, OT.
9. Buffalo Bills, Anthony Davis, OT – The offensive line was bad last year, injuries played a part but so did talent. Davis is a big power blocker with good quickness and power, is raw but can almost certainly contribute immediately. If Clausen were to be available here Buffalo might grab him but the offensive line is actually a much bigger need.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars, Earl Thomas, S – The pass rush improved through free agency the draft is the time to improve the secondary. Thomas is very good in coverage, has good speed for a safety, and plays the run well. Derrick Morgan, DE is an option here as well.
11. Denver Broncos, Rolando McClain, LB – The team addressed some needs on the defensive line but need to replace Andra Davis and McLain is the beat option in this draft at inside linebacker.
12. Miami Dolphins, Derrick Morgan, DE – Pass rush is going to be a need here since Porter and Taylor have left the team. Morgan is the most complete defensive end in this draft. Good quickness and burst he is athletic and has good strength as well. If he were not available, Brandon Graham would not be much of a drop off.
13. San Francisco Forty-niners, Bruce Campbell, OT – A very gifted athlete with good quickness and decent footwork he needs to improve technically and will need to be developed but has tremendous upside. A close option here would be Bryan Bulaga, OT who is perhaps more polished.
14. Seattle Seahawks, Joe Haden, CB – A need choice that they might have made early the Seahawks would be thrilled to find him still available. Haden has good awareness and foot speed; technique needs work but is athletic and should be at least a solid corner and possibly much better.
15. New York Giants, Brandon Spikes, LB – A solid player he will need to be to replace Antonio Pierce in this defense. The change in defensive coordinator position could change the type of player they are looking for to a player with better coverage skills and might look to trade out of this spot.
16. Tennessee Titans, Dez Bryant, WR – A great talent who could (and probably should) go much earlier he is the best receiver in the draft in terms of talent and seems to have all of the ego issues. Tennessee would like to have pass rusher here but would not be able to pass on Bryant, Pierre-Paul if still on the board would be an alternative pick.
17. San Francisco Forty-niners, Kyle Wilson, CB – The secondary has need of some help, Wilson is consistent performer capable of starting immediately.
18. Pittsburgh, Steelers, Mike Iupati, G – The offensive line needs some immediate help, Iupati is a power blocker who fits their scheme perfectly.
19. Atlanta Falcons, Maurkice Pouncey C – He can play either guard or center and has the tools to start form day one.
20. Houston Texans, Patrick Robinson, CB – Pass defense is the primary need here and he is athletic, with a good burst but is inconsistent at times.
21. Cincinnati Bengals, Jermaine Gresham, TE – The best tight end in the draft a good route runner he can also block effectively.
22. New England Patriots, Sergio Kindle, LB – A position of need Kindle is capable of being on the field and contributing immediately.
23. Green Bay Packers, Bryan Bulaga, OT – The Green Bay offensive line was inconsistent and needs depth. Bulaga is highly regarded but has limited upside he is technically very polished. He is capable of contributing immediately.
24. Philadelphia Eagles, Taylor Mays, S – The need here is to improve the secondary and Mays is the best option for that at this point in the draft. Drafting a corner back would be a good option here as well if Robinson were still on the board for example.
25. Baltimore Ravens, Demaryius Thomas, WR – A great athlete and potential number one receiver, he can run routes well though he has been inconsistent catching the ball at times but Derrick Mason is not getting any younger.
26. Arizona Cardinals, D’Anthony Smith, DT – The defense has suffered some loses in free agency. Smith is a good value choice here though Arizona is also in need of an inside linebacker.
27. Dallas Cowboys, Charles Brown, OT – This is the sixth offensive tackle and a bit of a reach at this point. Brown has all the physical tools to play in the NFL though it is not clear he will be a left tackle. (Dallas looks like a candidate to trade up.)
28. San Diego Chargers, C.J. Spiller RB – This is he number one running back and the team in most dire need of one, a perfect match. Spillers is capable of being explosive but durability questions will allow him to drop to this point.
29. New York Jets, Jared Odrick, DE – Has great initial quickness and should be able to break into the defensive rotation almost immediately as a situational rusher. Needs work on technique but should thrive in this defensive scheme.
30. Minnesota Vikings, Kareem Jackson, CB – Needs some coaching a development, could have benefited from another college season but he has the basic skills and athleticism to be a good cornerback.
31. Indianapolis Colts, Jon Asamoah G – Having cut Lilja in the offseason the offensive line has been identified as a primary concern. With the departure of Howard Mudd there may be some changes in philosophy but Asamoah looks like a fit for whatever direction they might head.
32. New Orleans Saints, Sean Weatherspoon, LB – He looks like a good replacement for Fujita on the strong side. Has good speed and athleticism and can cover but needs to improve his recognition.

This along with my post draft analysis (available after about May 1st) can be found here.

1. St. Louis - S. Bradford (QB) If your going to spend this kind of cash, it better be for a QB, and a franchise one at that. The Rams are hoping Bradford’s that guy, if not, with this draft class, everyone associated with the pick better have job options outside of football.

2. Detroit - N. Suh (DT) Schwartz is a defensive guy, who saw first hand what a dominant DT can do (Haynesworth). They need an OT but can’t justify not taking Suh here, so look for them to possibly jump back into the 1st and address it then.

3. Tampa Bay - G. McCoy (DT) Warren Sapp 2.0, at least Tampa is hoping. Taking McCoy here is so logical it can’t not happen.

4. Washington. - T. Williams (OT) Williams movement skills are so smooth and fluid it appears he is 50lbs lighter. Its Williams ceiling that gets him picked here over some of the other OT’s

5. Kansas City - R. Okung (OT) KC is taking the best available LT here, and Okung is that guy. He will allow them to reshuffling their line, and allow management to see what Cassell has to offer.

6. Seattle - B. Bulaga (OT) Pete Carroll has sent enough QB’s to the show to know that this is what the league is all about and that coaches are only as good as their QB allows. Now that he has a his new QB to go with the old one, he has to put them in a position to shine, and the #1 way to do that is by keeping them upright.

7. Cleveland - E. Berry (S) Having to watch the Ed Reed’s and Troy Polamalu’s of your division dominate games from their respective safety positions has got to breed jealousy.

8. Oakland - J. Pierre-Paul (DE) Bruce Campbell is getting talked up because of his wheels, but if people say Al Davis is picking him, he won’t. With JPP, Davis still gets his physical freak, and better valve at this spot.

9. Buffalo - J. Clausen (QB) Clausen just fits here, particularly with Chan Gailey running the show.

10. Jacksonville – R. McClain (MLB) Del Rio goes with what he knows. Dez Bryant could get a look here, but I think after the Matt Jones fiasco any WR would have to be totally clean for them to bite.

11. Denver - D. Williams (NT) Its almost as hard to get a NT as a QB, and Josh McDaniels won’t pass on the chance to get a Vince Wilfork type player.

12. Miami – S. Kindle (OLB) After McClain was taken this pick became tough. Kindle will be one of the bookend OLB taking over for either J. Taylor or J. Porter. The success of Brian Orakpo doesn’t hurt.

13. SF. – J. Haden (CB) Singletary probably had a guy like Mike Iupati in mind at this spot, but can’t pass up Haden and gambles that Iupati is available later.

14. Seattle - C.J. Spiller (RB) Spiller will be for Carol in Seattle what Reggie Bush was for him at USC.

15. NYG - D. Morgan (DE) Who knows what the future holds for Osi. With this pick the Giants get value and probably the best 4-3 DE on the board.

16. Tennessee - B Graham (DE) The defensive line has lost a lot of players recently, and they start to bring in new blood at the end position.

17. San Francisco – Mike Iupati (OL) Solid, Mike Singletary type player.

18. Pittsburgh- M. Pouncey (OL) You had better believe that the player picked here is a choir boy off the field, if they were a little lower this could be Tebow

19. Atlanta – E. Thomas (S) They probably are looking more for a DE who can rush the passer, but Thomas is too good a value.

20. Houston – K. Wilson (CB) They fill a need that free agency created. This year is make or break for the coaching staff.

21. Cincinnati - D. Bryant (WR) He falls because everyone above the Bengals either has a #1 WR, recently drafted one or are very leery due to past experience about them. The Bengals can’t pass him up.

22. Detroit (from NE) – A. Davis (OT) Detroit strikes by swapping their 2nd rounder & 3rd rounder (or something like that ) with NE. Stafford will be very happy with this pick.

23. Green Bay - C. Brown (OT) GB got good mileage late last year out of some aging vets on the line, but its still a big area of need.

24. Philadelphia – E. Griffin (DE) The Eagles have a good pass rusher in Trent Cole, but you can never have enough.

25. Baltimore - J Odrick (DL) The Ravens defensive front has some age on it that this Odrick pick can address.

26. Arizona - T. Cody (NT) If Arizona can keep Cody’s weight under control, he will eat up double teams and give Docket more freedom to do his thing

27. Dallas – T. Mays (S) Hamlin is gone leaving a hole that Mays will be drafted to fill. Mays is the case in point for leaving college when the iron is hot…….where would he have went last year.

28. San Diego – B. Campbell (OT) They have to get a running back out of the draft and R. Mathews has some intrigue, but Rivers is the franchise and Campbell has so much potential that they settle on the better prospect at a harder to obtain position.

29. NYJ – J. Hughes – (DE/OLB) Ryan will be intrigued with the possibilities of what he can do with Hughes. With Hughes pass rush ability and Ryan’s mind this could be the Rookie of the Year.

30. Minn – P. Robinson (CB) Tebow in this hole will be very tempting but not justifiable with Winfield looking like his physical play is catching up to him and Robinson still on the board.

31. Indy – R. Saffold (OT) The best way to stay a power house year in, year out, and be a Super Bowl threat is to protect the franchise QB, just like San Diego’s (at #28) thought process.

32. New Orleans - C. Dunlap (DE) Guys like Alex Brown are ones teams perpetually try to upgrade, no difference in the Big Easy.

Here is my second try. This is hard to do, and really showed me I know nothing about alot of teams in the NFL.

1. please put the picks with the team, that way you get points if you think there's going to be a first round trade
2. get a few more posts around the message board in the Halas Hall, Around the NFL, and War Room forums to get your post count up to 10 by tomorrow at 6:45pm.

Made some pretty significant revisions - unless something wacky happens, I think this is what I'll roll with. I got a few more rounds coming before 4:30 - might not make it to 7 this year, but we'll see. I'll try to get at least 4 out there.

Round 1

1. Washington – from St. Louis (1-15): Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
Don’t ask me why, but I have a weird feeling that McNabb is a one year bridge to Sam Bradford.

2. Detroit (2-14): Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
They should take a LT because Jeff Backus + Julius Peppers + Jared Allen + Clay Matthews = Matt Stafford in a closed casket.

3. Tampa Bay (3-13): Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State
The first screwball. The Bucs really want a defensive tackle, but know the odds of both McCoy and Suh panning out are about the same as Dewayne Robertson making the pro bowl next season.

4. St. Louis – from Washington (4-12): Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
The Rams get a high pick next year plus Albert Haynesworth and still get the QB they wanted all along.

5. Kansas City (4-12): Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
Berry is a future leader on a team without much of it.

6. Seattle (5-11): Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma
They were all set to take CJ Spiller and then BAM! Gerald McCoy slaps them in the head.

7. Cleveland (5-11): Derrick Morgan, DE/LB, Georgia Tech
With Berry off the board, the Browns try and replenish the pass rush.

8. Oakland (5-11): Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma
Things could really get weird if Clausen is gone and Oakland offers the #8 pick to Pitt for Big Ben.

9. New York Giants – from Buffalo (6-10): CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson
The prevailing feeling is that they want to move up for a ILB, but it’s really Spiller they want.

10. Jacksonville (7-9): Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama
Spiller was the target, but McClain isn’t a bad second option.

11. Philadelphia – from Denver via Chicago (7-9): Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State
Many point to FS as the reason to trade up, but the fact of the matter is that Asante Samuel is the worst tackling CB in the NFL.

12. Dallas – from Miami (7-9): Earl Thomas, S, Texas
If they want him as bad as many people think, they are going to have to make a move up to get him.

13. San Francisco (8-8): Brian Bulaga, OT, Iowa
He’s overrated as a left tackle, but could be a pillar on the right side for a decade or more.

14. Houston - from Seattle via Denver (8-8): Joe Haden, CB, Florida
He’ll never get past Tennessee or San Fran, so the Texas move up to grab a Leon Hall clone.

15. Buffalo – from New York Giants (8-8): Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee
They would probably take him at 9, but why do that when they can take him 6 spots later?

16. Tennessee (8-8): Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, USF
Pierre-Paul is a freak of nature who doesn’t have a lot of experience, but could be the best pass rushing prospect in the draft.

17. San Francisco - from Carolina (8-8): Ryan Matthews, RB, Fresno State
Frank Gore is gonna be pissed, but Samurai Mike wants a two pronged running attack.

18. Pittsburgh (9-7): Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho
Iupati is a mauler who can play inside or out.

19. Atlanta (9-7): Maurkice Pouncey, OG/C, Florida
Whether it's a guard or center, the Falcons can use him to help get Michael Turner back on track.

20. Seattle – from Houston (9-7): Charles Brown, OT, USC
Pete Carroll knows him, trusts him, and can count on him at left tackle.

21. Cincinnati* (10-6): Taylor Mays, S, USC
Mays is the next Trojan to flow through the USC/Cincinnati pipeline.

22. New England* (10-6): Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma
The well has run dry for the once stacked Pats, so they could go any number of directions here.

23. Green Bay* (11-5): Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers
He’s fat and lazy, but a hell of a football player when he wants to be.

24. Denver – from Philadelphia* (11-5): Demaryius Thomas, WR, Georgia Tech
After the trouble they had with Marshall, they opt for Little Calvin over Baby TO.

25. Baltimore* (9-7): Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State
Anquan Boldin, Donte Stallworth, and now Bryant? Talk about improving a weakness.

26. Arizona* (10-6): Sean Witherspoon, LB, Missouri
He never quits talking, but his game backs up the checks his mouth writes.

27. Miami – from Dallas* (11-5): Sergio Kindle, DE/LB, Texas
They were hoping Ryan Matthews would be here, but Kindle is a guy they would have considered at 12.

28. San Diego* (13-3): Jared Odrick, DE, Penn State
This is a tough spot to pick, so they may trade out, but Odrick can play end or tackle on a line that needs both.

29. Cleveland – from New York Jets* (9-7): Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
Mike Holmgren loves the kid and he can sit for a year or two behind Jake Delhomme and learn to throw interceptions at an alarming rate.

30. Minnesota* (12-4): Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
You never know what Favre will do and the Vikings offense just happens to be tailor made for McCoy.

31. Indianapolis* (14-2): Roger Saffold, OT, Indiana
Surprisingly they pass on Graham, but LT has been a trouble spot since Tarik Glenn walked out on them.

32. Pittsburgh – from New Orleans* (13-3): Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame
If they want him as bad as he wants them, the Steelers are going to have to squeeze back in to the bottom of the round.

Thanks, but as crazy as yesterday was, is it really a 'good; thing that I got so many right?

I'd argue that I'm either 'lucky', or I had a crazy mock.

It's kind of like picking the Bears to win the Superbowl this year, even if it happens, would that make me a genius for calling it? I think not.

But thanks again, and I really enjoyed it. Together with the chat last night and the new format, that was one of the funnest first rounds that I can remember and we didn't even have a pick.

Yep, good job DD. That was one bitch of a draft to call.

I developed a new respect for you mockers out there, there is alot of info to proccess, and sort thru.

It was fun though, I'm glad it you guys set it up.
